10 reviews for Samsung UN55HU6840 55-Inch 4K Ultra HD 60Hz Smart LED TV (2014 Model)

Got this at an enormous discount for Cyber Monday. Outstanding picture quality, excellent menu, and decent list of downloadable apps. The one real downside is it won’t let you program the remote to control other devices unless you plug in the included IR extender cable. I can’t imagine why. Also, the remote has a curved underside, which makes it wobble on a coffee table or desk. But small complaints aside, this thing is AMAZING! 4k content is still limited, but so was 1080p when it first became a thing. Netflix is starting to come out with some 4k content. The TV is light for its size, thanks to its slimness. It does not swivel on its stand. You will have to move the stand along with it. Not a problem for me, just including it for full disclosure. The bezel is quite narrow. My previous 46″ TV is only about 2″ smaller in total size, but the other 7″ are made up by the bezel. The sound is good, but not very loud. I ended up getting a Samsung Soundbar to go with it. I often have a lot going on around the house, so for a quieter environment, it may be loud enough for you by itself.

Bought for a great deal on black Friday. Coming from an old washed out DLP this set is amazingly crisp and the colors are amazing. 4k video from YouTube is pretty much the most fun viewing experience I’ve had in ages. There’s a lot of color settings I’m still working on but overall very happy with some basic changes out of the box. Starts up fast as lightning and the viewing angles are a lot better than I expected.

This is seriously awesome. I love watching TV on this. I have a regular Toshiba 55″ led tv and I put it next to it to watch a movie – huge difference! I was very surprised. I was watching Mr. And Mrs. Smith and on the 4k, there was a scene in the kitchen where you could see all the little details on the tile in the background unlike my Toshiba. The color on it is also amazing. Who needs a 3d tv, just get this.

This is an incredible value! Upscaled 1080P content is amazing, the built in apps are super fast and responsive. People who say that 4k doesn’t make a difference at this screen size simply don’t know what they are talking about. You will not be able to go back to 1080p after this. The obsession with claimed refresh rates is irrelevant, I have observed absolutely no issues in handling fast motion. The TV is at its best in handling bright material. Like most led based TVs it has a number of techniques like adaptive dimming to deal with night scenes. It can deliver surprisingly deep blacks but over prolonged night scenes the TV auto calibrating the dark levels is a bit distracting.I have been a Panasonic plasma user for 6 years, some of the best TVs available and I am entirely happy with my purchase. My TV has minor cloudiness on the right side of the screen, like others, this seems to be dissipating as I burn in the TV. Its only visible in very dark scenes and even if it doesn’t resolve I am completely happy with the overall performance and value of this TV.

After tons of research we recorded to purchase this tv and have been increasingly impressed by its capabilities and picture quality it is very easy to program and change the picture quality based on what you are watching also the smart settings are very easy to use and access I love that my other Samsung devices can sync to the tv as well

From what I’m reading, it’s hard to beat this TV for the price. The picture is fantastic but I’ve no other 4K to compare it to, just my old 50″ DLP.I had issues getting the TV to work with Netflix out of the box. Samsung suggested a factory reset…on my TV that just got to me from the factory. It worked. The one I got had BF appended to the SKU so keep that in mind. Either way it does have 3 HDMI and 3 USB ports including at least one USB 3.0. The TV and my Windows 8 laptop connect without me doing anything except clicking on things in the SmartHub. I’m watching Dawn of the Planet of the Apes in 1080p from my laptop now actually.USB drives plug into the back easily and the TV recognizes them immediately and gives access to their directory. Looking forward to plugging in an antenna and watching some broadcast HD stuff. As has been said repeatedly, finding native 4K content is hard. But my pictures look great on it and what I’ve found on YouTube is gorgeous. It’s a nice TV.

I’m not an audiophile or an AV guy but for the layman this is an awesome TV. Watched some YouTube videos in 4K and House of Cards on Netflix. Impressive! Its the best TV i’ve ever owned and looks better than any of the new TVs purchased by friends this year. The built in apps are fine, you can cast from your phone/tablet with the YouTube app. Only wish is that the remote had a keypad on it for searching within Hulu/Netflix. This is the one reason I may stick with my ChromeCast.Speakers are pretty weak. I have a small living room. I sit maybe 8 ft from the TV and have to crank it to about 60 to hear conversations. I will definitely be investing in a sound bar.

This is a great set. It arrived from Amazon in 2 days (I have a Prime membership), and was in perfect condition. Sales price was $798.00 delivered. I can’t begin to describe how nice of a picture this monitor has. Incredible. I cannot get true 4K content because ATT doesn’t offer more than a 6Mgb download in my area. Inky blacks, sharp picture, accurate color. I have not seen a motion issue at all since I have had it. Bright and razor sharp. PS4 looks terrific. 1080p Bluray movies look incredible. Totally satisfied with this one. This Samsung replaced a slightly larger and older 60″ Sony LCD, and the difference is immeasurable. Samsung makes the very best LED TVs, IMO. Kudos to Samsung for making a remarkable 55 inch LED UHD TV for under $1,000.

We purchased this TV to replace an LG Plasma that we’ve had for almost 8 years. It was hard to believe that the picture quality could be better than what we had, but it was. The picture is incredible. The setup instructions were easy to follow. We’ve only had it for about a week and have yet to watch any movies on it, but we will this weekend. Can’t wait! I researched this TV along with many others and found this TV to be the best deal with the best reviews.

I wanted to give this TV sometime to get used to how it works. After having it for a few weeks, I have to admit I’m really glad I bought it. Before mounting it on the wall, I hooked it up side by side with the 50″ Panasonic Plasma it is replacing, and I have to tell you, it makes a HUGE difference.Picture:Initially, harsh and overly bright, but after tweaking it for my tastes, very good color. With the TV setup next to my plasma, I tested the black levels visually, and much to my amazement, the Samsung actually matched the performance of my plasma for most uses. The only area where Plasma was better was when the picture didn’t fill the screen, leaving the black bars along the top and bottom, and in those cases, its clear that this is an edge lit television.Smart Functions:If you are buying a TV and don’t like having to hook up a specialty box like Roku, Amazon Fire, or Apple TV, you will be fairly pleased with the basic functionality that this TV offers. Netflix interface is smooth, fast and responsive, and for some shows, even streams in 4k, which makes a significant difference. Games are included such as Need for Speed Most wanted, but without a Samsung phone or compatible game controller, I don’t think many will play them.Controls:This Samsung does not include a smart remote with touch sensitivity or a joy stick. Which means that you get a rather standard remote control. It is back-lit, which is nice I suppose if your watching in the dark. It also has some smart capability for controlling connected devices through CEC, which works well as expected. That said, it does have a weakness. The Keypad button opens a dialog on the screen that allows you to select functionality not easily accessible, including picture in picture. It’s not the most user friendly experience.DLNA playback is also adequate, though I still have some additional sources that I intend to test. I will post some details on supported formats, which if you’re like me, can be a deal breaker. Fortunately for me, I have enough other devices connected that I really don’t have worry much.Connections:The back of this TV is pretty standard when compared to other televisions in 2014. They are set at 90 degrees which is essential for mounting flat against the wall, which I did. I also added a USB thumb drive to the back because the gaming functionality seemed to require it.Final Thoughts:This is a great offering from Samsung. I suspect this model was introduced exclusively for Black Friday, which is when I bought it too. That said, it doesn’t feel stripped down or hampered in anyway. In summary, this TV so far exceeds my expectations.
