I’ve had several audio systems through the years, each the newest technology of the day, to the point where I got a Denon receiver and some Bose floor speakers, and that’s were I stopped, because I was satisfied with the sound. In the mean time, I added a Polk sound bar and a Yamaha sound bar to two bedroom TV’s. This is what I’m using to compare. As time marched on and I decided to cut the cord to wired sound, I took a chance on this Sony.First, I want to say, I am no audiophile, but I appreciate great sounding music and great sound reproduction. This whole idea of streaming 3D music ( which is what this device does ) was intriguing. You can’t compare this Sony to a 7.1 surround sound setup like I had on my main TV, but there are some pluses to this unit.I played around with it to the point where I’m really jazzed about it, including the bass, which other reviews claim is flat. Well, you do have to tweak the sound to your individual liking, and there is an equalizer for this purpose. The next thing I noticed was, you can’t sit right on top of this thing and appreciate the sound. It’s room filling and expansive. My advice, move it around your room until you find the spot that sounds the best to you. You can put it on the coffee table in front of your couch, but I personally don’t feel that’s the best spot for it, however, it is very mobile and compact and easy to stow away in a corner, and then move to your desired spot when you’re listening.Next, consider your source of streaming music. I use Amazon, and did have to upgrade to HD sound, that alone will make music sound better on all your devices, but this is truly made for 3D sound, and I can really tell the difference. Also, the sound is calibrated to your room, so yeah, I’m thinking if you don’t have large rooms with 10ft ceilings like me, you may get a better sound experience, just like virtual surround sound on my bedroom sound bar sounds great cause my bedroom is small. So, those are some things I took into consideration before I gave a 5star review. I just don’t think it’s fair to say the speakers aren’t good quality, because, they are. If you do some research, Sony does not suggest replacing your 5.1 or 7.1 home theater system with this, but it will give your sound bars a run for the money. Considering the size of the unit, the sound is BIG! It’s portable, and wireless, and I like that. It’s also Expensive, and I have to agree with other reviews that mention that. Maybe the price will come down when the technology is not so new, but in the mean time if you want the newest technology, this is it!

This Sony SRS-RA5000 360 Reality Audio Premium Wireless Speaker with Wi-Fi is huge measuring 12.19″ x 11.06″ x 15.5″ and weighing 10 pounds. The Sony SRS-RA5000 uses a 7-driver 6.1 speaker system. It took me a while to review this speaker because I was honestly underwhelmed at its sound when I unboxed it. If you simply take this speaker out of the box, plug it in, and start playing tunes you’re likely to wonder why this thing is priced so high. I even questioned whether there were actually 7 speakers inside the housing. On a whim, I decided to download the Sony Music Center App. I cannot stress enough how essential Sony Music Center App is essential to the listening experience of this speaker and that of the smaller RA3000 as well. There are output settings the app configures that act in many ways to a DAC. The sound immediately transforms with the app installed and the default configuration used.Bass and volume were the two major disappointments for me prior to installing the app. Both were substantially improved by installing the app. Prior to installing the app the bass on this speaker was comparable to some of the cheaper 20-40 watt speakers I own. Afterward, the bass was warm, deep, and punchy. Where I’d cranked the volume to 70% previously I found the sound becoming too loud above 40% after installing the app.I cannot say the app alone was responsible for this. For some speakers, when they sit packaged for too long, their drivers become stiff and need to be played over the span of a few days to a week for the drivers to loosen up and become responsive. This is particularly true when producing low-end frequencies so it’s hard to say whether the app alone was responsible for how vastly sound output and quality improved but it certainly played a significant role. The best sound I got out of this speaker came when I invited a friend who produces music over. He brought a DAC and some high-res files with him and plugged them into this Sony SRS-RA5000. The sound produced was stunning. This speaker can produce stunning results when properly driven. Highs were crispy without ever becoming fatiguing. Mids were articulate and both were agile when various pieces of music required them to be. I already mentioned bass above but it’s worth reiterating bass on this speaker is strong, resonating, and impactful. This speaker has received a fair share of negative reviews and three weeks ago I would have added another 3-star or lower review to the mix because I was unimpressed by this Sony SRS-RA5000 and with a $700 asking price, I wouldn’t in good conscience be able to recommend the speaker. However, after installing the app and allowing the speakers to burn-in for a couple of weeks I have gone from being crestfallen to being rhapsodic.Anyone interested in this speaker should take advantage of Amazon’s 30-day return policy and give this speaker an in-home listening test. Download the app and let the speaker run continuously, playing ambient sounds for 4-7 days then play your favorite content on it to see if impresses. If the Sony SRS-RA5000 blows you away keep it. Otherwise, pack it up and send it back for a refund. 4.5 out of 5.0

To be clear, this speaker system is designed to provide “ambient room-filling sound.” It is not designed to be a head pounding sound system, although it can do this to an extent. To review this system by comparing it to soundbar products, theater sound systems, or other 360-degree sound systems, whose purpose is to play booming audio in whatever direction the speaker is aimed, is missing the whole point of this product. One of the main features of this system is its ability to play Sony’s 360 Reality Audio technology. Reality Audio (RA) is a process whereby music producers encode each channel of audio onto tracks in a way that only a RA speaker can understand. This music can be played on other speakers too, but they will not interpret the audio the same as the RA speaker does. With RA tracks, the music producer places each channel in a specific location in the listener’s space. For example, lead vocals can be centered, and in front of the listener while the background singers can be placed off to one side. And each instrument can be placed in their own position in space relative to the listener. For example, a violin can be to the right and below the listener, while a special effect could seem to come from behind the listener and move to the front as the track progresses. This then becomes the immersive, room-filling, effect. This audio experience is noticeably different from stereo, in a good way. I have not experienced RA before getting this system, but the RA audio experience is awesome. RA music is available from many streaming services, and while the number of songs using this technology is increasing, it remains a small percentage of the total number of songs available for streaming. Is this speaker worth getting if you do not intend to take advantage of RA? I think so. Even without RA, the speaker is designed to radiate audio throughout the room in all directions using Sony’s Immersive Audio Enhancement Technology. This technology creates a stereo effect despite the system being located in one location rather than multiple locations as found with a true stereo system. This system produces good audio at all points in the room, despite its small package. At low to moderate outputs, the audio quality remains clear. As you near the highest volume settings, the clarity diminishes. Since this speaker is intended to be a more subtle sound system, you likely will not run it at its highest volumes anyway.I have read criticisms about this speaker’s bass output. At the default configuration, all of the system’s speakers are set at 0db. At these settings, the bass is indeed lacking. However, by using the Sony Music Center app, the bass can be adjusted to where it will produce great output. Since all audio settings, except volume, are set from the app, if a user does not use the app in this way I can see where the audio might be criticized. The app’s equalizer has five preprogrammed settings that can be set depending on the type of music being broadcast, and one custom setting that can be programmed by the user. The device comes with the speaker, power cord, and manual. The included 20 page manual is the complete manual, not just a quick-start guide. The speaker is a moderate size, but it is not obtrusive. It measures 13” tall and about 9” wide and weighs about 10.75 pounds. On top of the speaker are two sets of three buttons each. One set of three buttons control power and Bluetooth pairing, audio input selection, and audio enhancement/calibration. The other set of three buttons control play/pause, volume increase, and volume decrease. Each set of buttons also have their own indicator lights that provides information and device status. Power is supplied by a power cord that must be plugged in, which limits the placement of the speaker in a room. An improvement would be to make this a cordless system so that room placement is not restricted. The speaker works either by receiving a broadcast from a Bluetooth connected mobile device or TV, using WiFi to access a streaming service, or by using a 3.5mm input cord. The Bluetooth device must remain in the general proximity of the speaker for a signal to be received.Connecting to the speaker is easy. Simply turn the speaker on, switch to Bluetooth pairing mode, then select the speaker in your mobile device’s Bluetooth menu. Once connected, your mobile device’s audio will broadcast through the speaker. The device connected easily to my compatible Sony TV by simply going into the TV’s Bluetooth setting and pairing with the speaker. Connecting to WiFi and to Google Assistant was painless.

This Sony speaker is incredible. This all-in-one surround sound speaker system delivers quite the punch in a small package. I have it set up with Alexa and mostly play music and podcasts on Spotify which is also a built-in feature. The sound quality is crisp, rich and deep. I was amazed at how the music felt like it was coming in at all different angles. It’s pricey but with all the tech that’s been packed into this thing it’s worth it. I would definitely recommend getting this speaker to flood any room of your house/apartment with immersive sound that will truly be an experience in and of itself.

This Sony Reality Audio Premium Wireless Speaker is absolutely spell-binding! It gives a reality audio sound creating a feeling of immersion that makes it feel like you are at a live concert! It fills your whole room with sound, the speaker distributes the sound perfectly throughout the room. It has a immersive audio enhancement and sound calibration making the speaker have a unique algorithm. The speaker it also wireless, which is my favorite type of speaker, it can start seamlessly streaming my playlist collection on my iPhone and could stream music in many more types of electronics (including TV’s)! The speaker also has voice control, which I think is amazing! It can connect to Alexa and google assistant, giving you the ability to control with your voice using compatible home products to connect with the speaker. Also one of the best things about this speaker is that it can last 6-8 hours, but probably even more! The design of the speaker is also very unique and elegant, which I love! Overall I love this Sony speaker, and the speaker did practically perfect! And if you are considering of buying this speaker, buy it!

I’ve been reviewing items for many years for Amazon. For the most part, I really do not like to look at other reviews before I write my own. But in this case, I was tempted to do so because it look like there were several negative reviews. And I was curious about what others didn’t like about this speaker.Honestly… I really don’t get the other reviews. I find this to be an amazing speaker. I will admit that the other speakers I tend to use are much smaller than this one, but they are Bang & Olufsen (B&O) speakers and really pack a punch. I love my B&O speakers. But then along comes this 1, and I am simply thrilled with it!As current speakers go… This is rather a large speaker. It stands just over 12 inches tall, and is approximately 9 inches across. It has a weight of approximately 10 pounds. It should be noted that this is a wired speaker, so you will need an electrical outlet, no matter where you plan on using it. It offers 360 sound.I find the base to be amazing. I am a “quirky” sort of music listener. I like jazz music but then I also like the boom… Boom… Boom of dance music. I get all of the base that I want… Need… And desire when I played dance music on this speaker. But the treble is also very crisp and clear. This speaker offers what they call “360 reality audio”. It is supposed to give you a “feeling of immersion” in the music. But from what I can tell, this “360 reality audio” is only offered through certain music services such as Amazon music. But I have tried it on Amazon music and I like it.This speaker works both with Alexa and Chromecast. It is fairly easy to set up. You will want to download the Sony app before you get started. This speaker also offers “audio in”.Overall, I am extremely happy with this speaker. It has a very modern look, and sounds fantastic!

Your browser does not support HTML5 video. I am far from being an audiophile but I can also appreciate the quality of sound that I get from this speaker. I’ve owned other Bluetooth speakers in the past and the only con for this speaker is that it does need a power source. Since I use it primarily at home, that’s not an issue for me. Love it and that’s an understatement!
