I’ve had quite a few electric toothbrushes – but I have to say, this one is by far the best one I’ve tried. I’ve been using it for only a week, but it makes my teeth feel soooo clean. And to think, I’ve been avoiding getting this kind of brush because I thought how could one little round brush clean better than the larger brushes? Well, it does!!!!! I have been having issues with my gums receding a bit on my back molars and my dentist suggested I get an Oral-B because the other brushes might be doing more harm than good. Plus, this one has the pressure sensor, so it tells you if you are brushing to hard. Sure enough I had been. Can’t say enough good things about this brush. Another feature I like is the small charging base. Some of the more expensive Oral-B brushes come with a much wider base that in my opinion would take up too much counter space. A toothbrush isn’t the most glamorous thing I want sitting on my counter in the first place – so the more discreet the better.

When my old electric toothbrush would no longer hold a charge for even one brushing, I began the process of shopping for a new one, which for me means reading about umpteen different models. This is the one I settled on, and I love it! There is nothing I would change about it. In fact, the battery life is much better than I expected. I also really like the cross action brush head but decided I should use a softer bristle … and all previous brush heads fit on this model. I like the red warning light that flashes if you bear down too hard, and the special pulsing to tell you when it’s time to move on to the next quadrant of your mouth. There is a longer pulsing letting you know when two minutes is up. I must admit that I don’t even know if it has Bluetooth connectivity because that was of no interest to me when selecting a new toothbrush. But everything about this one is perfect for me.

First, there is some ambiguity currently on this item’s listing page. The item pictured is a Pro 1500, while the title says Smart 1500 (which I didn’t notice when I made the purchase). Apparently the Smart 1500 is the new model of this toothbrush – it’s essentially the same, just with some cosmetic differences (see pics… has a more streamlined look, the battery indicator is just a small LED instead of a battery icon, and the pressure indicator light is the new 360 degree style). No complaints there, I actually prefer the new look, and of course it still has the (better) lithium ion battery. However, there is one functional difference that I’ve noticed. The description on this page shows that it only has one cleaning mode (Daily Clean), but I had established from reading various sources that this was incorrect, the Pro 1500 also has Sensitive mode. The page for the Smart 1500 (again, the updated version of this product which I received) on Oral B’s site does say it has the two modes. BUT, in reality it actually has THREE modes, adding the Whitening mode. The manual that came with it does mention this mode, but apparently the marketing people didn’t get the memo. I’d actually personally count this as a slight negative, because I only use the Daily Clean mode, and the other two modes means I have to push the power button three times to turn it off when I’m finished brushing. Not a big deal, just a minor annoyance. The other thing I wanted to mention is the noise. I’ve used an Oral B “Pro 5000” (not sure if that’s the exact name, but it’s the one with a standalone timer display) since 2014, and I’ve been happy with it, but the battery is declining in capacity, so I was ready to replace it (and I decided to go with a more basic model this time). However, I was struck with fear over the various reviews here of the current generation of Oral B toothbrushes (with the exception of the new iO series) that mentioned how unbelievably LOUD they are. I didn’t find my old model to be excessively loud, so my concern was that they made a design change that made the new models significantly louder. But in the end, this was not the case… as you can see in the pics, the Smart 1500’s noise level is identical to my older one. They do sound a little different (presumably because the newer one is more powerful), but there’s no significant difference in volume. So, the “it’s too loud” comments are probably comparing it to a Sonicare (which is indeed much quieter).Lastly, I really wish Oral B would implement a user-replaceable battery. I’m no environmentalist, but I hate when I have to add to the landfill by throwing away a perfectly good device that is no longer usable simply because the battery doesn’t hold a charge. I know Oral B’s job is to sell as many toothbrushes as possible, and I also understand that from a design/engineering perspective it can complicate things a bit. But it’s so wasteful to have to throw away things that still have plenty of life in them. And, honestly, this influenced me to buy $60 toothbrush this time as opposed to the fancier $250 one… though I got a solid solid six years out of my previous one, “the battery died prematurely” is a common refrain in reviews of Oral B toothbrushes. Knowing I could have to throw a very expensive toothbrush in the trash if the battery happened to die shortly after the two year warranty was up pushed me to this cheaper model instead (which I wouldn’t cry about if I only got two years use out of it). If the battery was user-replaceable, I would have been more likely to splurge on the iO model.

I bought this as the end result of being a long-time user of disposable  Oral-B 3D White  electric toothbrushes, but wanting something rechargeable and more effective. I decided to try an  Allegro Self-Sterilizing Sonic  toothbrush because I loved the idea of a sterilizing function for the brush head. Unfortunately, I missed the mechanical action of the Dual Clean brush heads of the old Oral-B, and the Allegro brush head was awkwardly small…I kept knocking the plastic head against my teeth, which whilst vibrating was *very* uncomfortable. So, I decided to go back to Oral-B. I researched functions and features, and decided on this Pro 1500. I’m very glad I did, and am completely happy with this purchase. It has more than enough of the features I wanted (two speeds, vibration *and* mechanical action, visible pressure sensor, and timer) and none of the extraneous features of the higher end brushes that I consider pointless (Bluetooth connectivity, multiple speed settings, weirdly bulky size). I also purchased some  Dual Clean replacement heads , as I think they’re much more comfortable than the default round Cross Action heads.I realize that I’ve probably just grown and adapted to the Dual Clean head size of the original because I’ve been using it for so many years. None of this is to say that there’s anything wrong with the Allegro; it works very well, is wonderfully self contained and travel-ready, and I hope to figure out a way to continue using the sterilizing feature with the Oral-B brush heads. But, this Pro 1500 is absolutely my choice of electric toothbrush going forward.

Why I chose this model:The Pro 1500 series comes with all the features I wanted. Minus the unnecessary smart tools its successors are equipped with this model is built with both the 40,000 (regular clean mode) – 20,000 (gentle clean mode) pulsation per minute, it displays a red light when the user is applying a bit too much force on the enamel, a built-in 2 minute timer will vibrate the toothbrush to inform you every 30 seconds when to move on to the next quadrant of the teeth, and finally the better rechargerable lithium-ion battery it comes with. It’s important to mention the battery, because some other successors are not equipped with this 2 week lasting battery in just 1 charge. How it feels:It vibrates and pulsate. Amazing.I brushed my teeth with it last night and woke up feeling like “whoa.” I felt as if I did not have to brush again. I felt so good. So far I love this product and will never go back to regular manual brushing again. My friend on the other hand felt that it was too powerful for her even on the gentler side. I did not need to lessen it’s regular clean mode.I recommend this product. My only curiosity is how long will it last until it breaks down from overuse.

This is great. I put the toothpaste on it. I smear it around my teeth (no water) I turn it on the second click, for gentle mode. I brush 1/4 of my mouth at a time until it gives me a quick little 2 shudders, then I move to the next 1/4. At the end it shudders 3 times and I know I’m done. Unsnap the brush head and rinse it well. There’s usually enough left over wetness in it for the next time your brush without having water running onto your hand. It holds the charge quite well. It has a variety of brush tops to suit your needs (separate purchase) It comes with 2 heads and the charging platform. Does NOT come with any storage compartment for the brush heads. I leave mine in a small plastic holder with my toothpaste. It really leaves your teeth with that slick smooth just got em cleaned at the dentist feeling.

*** Update October 5th 2020Well over two years later and the brush is still going strong… excellent brush with excellent battery life my teeth and gums have never been more healthy…. 5 star toothbrush!IMHO this is the best model to buy. It has regular mode and sensitive mode which is really all you need. The higher end models have more modes but they really don’t amount to much. This brush has a lithium ion battery… the pro 1000 does not. I charged this toothbrush when I first received it and it has lasted 13 days of sometimes 3 times a day brushing… sometimes longer than the recommended 2 minutes as well. I estimate that’s an almost 60 minute runtime! Do yourself a favor and buy this brush and leave the bells and whistles of the higher end models to those who have money to throw away.

I was looking for an electric toothbrush that was good at cleaning teeth. I didn’t want all the bells & whistles. Some folks must want to use a cell phone to chart their tooth brushing but… really? (bluetooth? i want cleantooth!)There are so many models of electric toothbrushes to choose from by each of the major brands. It felt more complex than looking at car models without being able to test drive them! I decided on Oral-B instead of Phillips Sonicare largley because of the shape & size of the brush head. I called the toll-free number for Oral-B to ask, “Do you have a model that has a sensitive setting & doesn’t have bluetooth? I don’t need all the ‘extras’.” They suggested this model which I hadn’t found on my own (at the time it wasn’t showing on their website) & I’m happy they did.I’ve been using it for a year now without any problems other than the color that delineates the on/off button is starting to wear off. I’ve traveled with it sans the charging base for up to 7 days & it’s kept it’s charge just fine (normally I keep it on the charging base all the time but when I’m using it to brush my teeth). I don’t find it to be as loud as some people report & it doesn’t wake my sleeping partner when I use it in our en suite bathroom.Want an electric toothbrush that’s easy to use & will result in clean teeth & don’t feel the need for all the extras?I recommend this one!

I have the Oral B 5000 toothbrush and my wife wanted a second brush, so I bought the 1500 model, which uses the same charging base. While my 5000 is a few years old, the 1500 is WAY more powerful, it’s night and day difference. — I don’t understand exactly why, but my old 5000 is “vibrating” at a much slower speed than the new 1500. Now I think I’ll need to replace the 5000 with another 1500.

So after not having dental insurance for, well let’s say a VERY VERY long time I finally got it and went to the dentist. As expected my mouth was a dumpster fire. One (of the many) thing the dentist demanded was switching to an electric toothbrush. I did a lot of research and I wasn’t going to buy a $25 brush I’d end up having to replace in 3 months but I also wasn’t going to spend $250for a toothbrush, electric or not.I decided to go with the oral-b. They have a very good reputation and the features and price were just what I was looking for. It is solidly built, 100% water proof and has 3 settings and a “you’re brushing too hard” sensor. The final verdict? After several weeks of use (and numerous dental appointments). My dentist smiled and said “you got an electric toothbrush didn’t you”? I smiled (as well as I could with a mouthful of hands and dental equipment). Great product. Well worth the reasonable price!
