Okay, I haven’t had it for long, but it would literally have to blow up in my face not to be the best laptop of my life, and it’s probably my fortieth or so I’ve owned. It’s so light that I’ve had a moment’s panic several times when the weight of the case on my shoulder told me I had absolutely forgotten to pack the computer, leaving it on some coffee-shop table, when actually I’d been carrying it all along. The screen is drive-in size, bright, and diamond-sharp. The speakers seem okay, but I mostly listen through phones, so they could actually be better than that. The keyboard, aside from some wonky positioning of a couple of the cursor keys (which took some getting used to) is the best I’ve ever used, and the keyboard backlight is the best I’ve ever seen, with two settings, both of which are useful. My only real problem is with Microsoft, which is, unfortunately, the only company I dislike more than I like Apple. With every upgrade, Windows gets pushier about insisting that I use Word and Excel when I prefer the Open Office versions of those programs; at times it opens my documents automatically in the Microsoft version, forcing me to re-save it in the program I prefer. Pretty junky behavior. Oh, and THE BATTERY LIFE IS UNBELIEVABLE. I tend to work in 4-6-hour stretches, and I only need to charge this machine every couple of days. They say it gets 16 hours, but I’ve gotten more with Battery Saver enabled. In other words, you can work from takeoff to landing on any nonstop flight in the world today. Incredible.

I rarely write reviews, but here goes…I use laptops for various project tasks, communication, image editing and light entertainment. I am not a gamer. I’ve owned about a dozen Apple machines and a handful of Windows devices, including an Asus zen book most recently. I turned away from Apple in the last couple years and have been really impressed with the most recent versions of Windows. Although I still prefer my iphone to all other makes. So what about this LG laptop???Pros- Beautiful bright and sharp display- Good, responsive keyboard- Lightning fast CPU (for my purposes)- Reasonably sturdy build (flex not an issue for me)- Extra light weight for the screen size ( main selling point)- Minimal (for Windows) bloatwareCons- Should have full size SD slot and not micro- Should have both a USB and USB-C on each side rather than a 1-1-2 configuration- Haven’t been able to charge thru USB-C…maybe my own misunderstandingThat’s it. I was apprehensive about plopping down a grand for last years model but I’m glad I did. I’m very happy with this laptop. So far so good.

This is a great laptop. It’s super light, has a good screen, and it lasts a long time.Even though it doesn’t ship with one or say that it supports it, you can easily install an NVMe SSD such as the Samsung 970 Pro or Adata XPG SX8200. These are about 4-5x faster than the SSD it comes with.It only has one DDR4 SODIMM slot, and 4GB of the RAM is built into the mainboard. If you want to put 12GB in, buy an 8GB stick, if you want 20GB, buy a 16GB stick. It uses 2400MHz memory.

  4. The Digital Shopper

Having gone through multiple tablets and Macs, I settled on the LG gram 15″ – it’s been two days and the it’s lived up to the hype after watching scores of YouTube videos and reading reviews both on Amazon and other review sites. The magnesium chassis has a good rugged feel and is cold to the touch.+ Keyboard is pretty awesome, I’ve owned ThinkPads and other corporate laptops — the LG gram keyboard is great to type on.- Display is glossy, but I don’t mind; this laptop is almost used exclusively inside the house where there is no glare+ Precision trackpad means great support for Windows gestures+ NVME slots means I’m not locked to 256GB forever and there is room for upgrades later+ USB-C charging is great!- Speakers are tragic, but are loud and clear enough for Netflix/YouTube/work

This laptop is super light at any screen size, but unbelievably so at the massive 15.6″ screen size. The machine boots Win10 super fast and tasks are super snappy. Running the TPM control panel (tpm.msc) shows it has a TPM 2.0 chip which is important for Bitlocker disk encryption. Nowhere that I could find did the LG specs say either way — I only was sure once I ordered, received, and checked for myself. The screen is bright and vibrant. The keyboard is well spaced and nicely tactile, although admittedly still a step behind the legendary ThinkPad keyboard. The 15.6″ also has a full number pad as part of the main keyboard, although the key layout is a bit different. Most of the time, the laptop is dead silent and the loudest I’ve ever heard the fan is noticeable but not at all objectionable. The WiFi is ac, so both 2Ghz and 5Ghz unlike stated by another reviewer. I have personally tested the WiFi on 5G at 400mbps. The included USB-C ethernet dongle is indeed only 100mbps, but most ultralight laptops don’t include a built-on or external wired ethernet connection, so kudos to LG for including one in the box for emergency type use.I can’t yet comment on durability but nothing I’ve seen thus far concerns me.

Here is the checklist:• Lightweight < 3lbs but duriable• At least 14” screen• Long battery life (at least 10 hours)• DIY upgradable ram and storage• Quiet and stay cool• Back-lit Keyboard• Not a touchscreen

  7. GoCubs

There is one, and only one, reason to buy the LG Gram 15 over all the many other laptop options: This is by far the lightest 15-inch-screen laptop available. At 2.4 pounds, it is almost unbelievably light and easy to carry, around the house or for work. Everything else about it is pretty ordinary, but acceptable. The screen brightness, at a little over 300 nits, is less bright than laptops such as the XPS15 and MacBook Pro, but fine in almost all situations other than direct sunlight. Color contrast is decent, LG has always made good screeens. The keyboard, while a little cramped, has decent key travel for the laptop width and is comfortable to type on. Because of the lightweight materials used, the LG Gram has some flex, but nothing alarming. The design is understated and won’t wow anybody, but you are buying this for its compact packaging, not a flashy design. Performance is fine on almost all business applications; not a gaming or high-end video editing laptop. Sound has good volume, but lacks bass and depth, as you’d expect. Personally, I don’t need the fastest, best-looking, most expensive laptop on the market. I need something that is light and easy to carry for travel, that gets the job done for my business. For me, the LG Gram is a great choice, but probably not for everybody.

I knew it would be light, but it’s just incredible. I’ve used light laptops before, but at 15.6″ it has to be the lightest by far. While it doesn’t feel sturdy, there are enough videos dropping / throwing this laptop around. I think because this is so light it just can’t be damaged easily. The battery life was very impressive as well.

Update- I’ve been using this laptop for many months now without any problems & I could not live without it! It has some scratches on the exterior, but I consider these signs of a laptop well used & well-loved. I bring it to work and use it to “remote in” since it’s lighter and faster than my work laptop that is physically connected to the network. My co-workers also love working on my LG Gram & are always begging to borrow it!This laptop is everything I’ve been yearning for. It’s light (2 lbs), fast, compact, & has the numeric keypad. Even better, the battery lasts for days. It’s not a touchscreen, but if you need a business-friendly laptop that is easy to travel with & works well with Office Suite, this is the one for you.I’ve wasted too much money on multiple laptops for half the price (that have half the speed & battery life)… This is the real deal and is worth every cent!

I purchased this laptop for my mother for Christmas to replace her old one which has long since broken down. This laptop was perfect for her because it was so thin and lightweight that she can slip it into her work bag and not have to deal with hauling around a large, bulky device. The device itself is great in regards to basic/everyday usage in regards to the specific specification I chose for her. The CPU and RAM is strong/large enough for basic web browsing and emailing and the SSD size is more than enough for her large library of photos for her personal business.
