I really do enjoy this laptop. It’s a really good design and very slim and lightweight. So far it’s handled the programs that I use daily. The battery life does burn faster than I expected but overall it’s a great laptop.

I was searching for a new laptop with a 3:2 ratio screen at a 14″ size, but didn’t want to spend $1,000. I discovered that 3:2 ratio screen sized laptops are hard to come by at a reasonable price. I ran into an article on a Chuwi laptop that used an Intel i3 processor on a website search, but had never heard of the brand. The site directed me to Amazon and I discovered an upgraded version, the Corebook X. This laptop uses an Intel i5, albeit one that is a few generations old. Nevertheless, I thought I’d give it a try since it also has a 3:2 ratio 14″ screen.I must say, I’m quite impressed with this laptop. Build quality is excellent, the screen is vivid with good contrast and color accuracy. It is thin and light but rugged as it is encased in metal. No screen flex and the keyboard is superb. The i5 processor is speedy as applications and websites snap open instantly, with no lag whatsoever. The m.2 SSD is a real plus, and an easily accessible door on the bottom provides a slot for adding an additional one.The good stuff:- The 3:2 ratio screen in a 14″ laptop hits the sweet spot for me. It provides excellent screen real estate and reduces constant scrolling. Not a gamer’s screen, but for business use it is excellent. Videos are amazing, albeit with a 1/2″ black bar above and below. Not a big deal for me.- The i5 processor, 16gb of ram, and 256gb m.2 SSD put this laptop over the edge almost into premium category. And, the ability to easily add a second SSD is a real plus.- Sturdy, all-metal case with a flat finish that resists fingerprints.- The 3:2 screen size lengthens the laptop that allows for a HUGE trackpad that is smooth and responsive. And, it’s centered!!!- Keyboard layout and feel are excellent. No misfires when using it. I really appreciate that it’s backlit, and is only on when using the keys.- Plain old Windows 10 Home without bloatware of any kind! Thank you Chuwi!!!!- All driver updates were accomplished through Windows update. No need to go to the manufacturers’ website to get updates.- Strong wifi connection using an Intel wifi radio.- No screen ghosting like I’ve experienced on other laptops.- I use Samsung dex on my Galaxy s10e, and it’s plug-and-play on this laptop through the USB-C port. No docking station needed. It immediately identified the Samsung dex functionality of my phone and downloaded the apps and drivers instantly.- Fairly fast battery recharging time up to about 90% in 2-hours from 10%.- I emailed a question about the laptop to Chuwi and they responded almost immediately! Excellent customer service. Not so much:- Battery life is just OK. It uses a 43 amp-hour battery that is smaller than my 55 amp-hour Dell XPS 12 that I purchased in 2013, but gets about the same usage time. Not bad, but the Dell isn’t all that great either. However, the Chuwi does have a larger and brighter screen, so there’s that. So far, I get about 4-5 hours with constant use including heavy web access. That’s about exactly what Chuwi’s website proclaims, so no exaggeration there.- The two speakers on the bottom are weak and sound tinny.- A little stingy on ports. Only one USB-3 and one USB-C. There is a micro-SD slot, but I don’t foresee a need for that myself. It may be useful to someone who transfers a lot of photos and files to other devices without using the USB port.- The power supply connector seems a bit weak. It appears that it could be easily damaged with a sudden tug on the cable. I would have preferred a magnetic connector to avoid any accidental problems.-There is no light to indicate the laptop is in standby mode when the lid is closed. Also, just like with most other laptops currently, there is no light to indicate the drive is being accessed.- Opening the lid takes a bit of getting used to unless one has long fingernails.- Uses an older Intel processor that was released in 2017 and the m.2 SSD is not NVME. This is not an impediment to it’s overall performance and probably helps keep its price down.- Uses a glossy screen, which is good news; bad news. It provides a sharp picture, but highly reflective under certain lighting conditions.Overall, I’m very pleased with this laptop. No quirkiness of any sort so far. Every other laptop I’ve purchased required further driver development to get rid of problems, including from Dell and HP.This laptop takes full advantage of Windows 10 functionality and provides a superb user experience. It’s safe to say that with a little bigger battery this would be an exceptional laptop that could keep up with much more expensive models. I’ve only been using it for two days, so long-term use will be a critical factor. Nevertheless, I highly recommend it.

This thing is great. There is no competition for quality affordable 13 inch laptops. The keyboard is top tier. The performance is peppy. If I had to complain about anything, I would like the screen to be laminated to the glass with better backlighting. The pixel density, color, and contrast are pretty good. The touchpad is only middle tier. The build quality overall is good for this price, but the bottom has a bit too much plastic flex.

Overall this is a great laptop with comparable speed and processor of more well known brands with a price tag that is half what you’d expect. Slim, full sized, backlit keyboard. Battery life is only about 3 hrs and there are limited plug connections but the other features more than make up for it in my opinion. Screen ratio is an odd choice (2:3) but doesn’t interfere with my use in any way.

Really like this laptop. I upgraded the internal ssd to a samsung 860 SATA ssd with rapid technology turned on through samsung magician software. Greatly improved performance. Also second slot supports M.2 NVMe but only at PCI Express 3.0 x4 speed. For that slot I used a Samsung 970 NVMe SSD.First slot only supports SATA, which is only accessible by removing the entire back cover. The second slot supports SATA or an NVMe drive. Remember that when buying your drives! Recommend installing the Samsung NVMe driver from their website. An NVMe drive in the first slot will not be detected in the bios. To get into bios tap the ESC key multiple times after holding the power button to turn laptop on.Processor supports VT-x so running virtual machines with hardware virtualization is great. VirtualBox and LDplayer work well.Came with Windows 10 1909 installed. I upgraded to pro version and then used Windows 10 Upgrade assistant program to manually upgrade to 20H2. No issues.Basic games work well and call of duty mobile works pretty good on LDplayer. Also great as a travel laptop. With 16gb ram for this price you cannot go wrong. I appreciate the quality of the glass screen as well. It is reflective but the 2k resolution looks very sharp on the display.Laptop fan kicks on about 43-48c. I’ve gotten it up to 75c and no issues. Does get quite warm on the bottom. Fan noise could be more quiet. It does have a certain whine which I wish was more quite under constant load. The clicking of the touch pad is quite loud. I recommend only tapping the touch pad. I did get an external mouse for faster multi tasking and light gaming. All latest drivers can be manually downloaded from microsoft update catalog to by searching the hardware ID.I do enjoy using this laptop. For what it does at the price point makes me happy 😁

I’ve only had this laptop for a couple days. The battery life for a laptop like this is exactly how you would expect it to be. It’s not the best to be completely honest but for the amazing price it comes at, it’s something that doesn’t matter too much. I had a bit of a technical problem with it, nothing too important but with a quick email sent directly to CHUWI they were able to get back to me within 24 hours and resolve the issue I was having. I would definitely recommend this laptop to anyone who is in need of a laptop. Great customer service and great laptop for the price that it comes at!

well built. battery life is so so. keyboard is as good as any macbook pro i have owned. trackpad isn’t amazing, clicking takes a lot of force and gives it a slightly cheap feel. tracking is accurate though, single and double taps work very well. i have had some bluetooth audio latency issues where the output audio is slightly behind the video. not a huge problem. power connector is a little odd, small and seems fragile. screen is superb, even and bright. body is well built. a small usb-c hub deals with the lack of ports easily. been using it about a week so far and have had zero issues; updates, sleeping, restarting, powering on/off, all work without issue. fan only kicks on when expected and is a reasonable volume. at idle processor utilization hovers around 4-5%, unlike other chinese made intel based laptops i own.so far i’ve used this machine to edit a 1080p 120fps film project in premiere pro and its handled this task easily. that’s not to say it will handle any film project, something with blurs, time warping, or other processor intense operations i bet it would struggle a bit but probably still be reasonably useable.if you treat this machine with a little care, eg. not yanking out the power cable, traveling with it in a padded sleeve, it should last a couple of years, if not more. especially with the ease of upgrades to the ram and hd. the only thing i am concerned about is the battery. will it maintain a charge beyond 1-2 years and will it bubble? if it dies prematurely or bubbles i doubt a replacement will easily be found.this laptop should support windows 11, the processor it uses is on microsoft’s list of supported intel processors and has tpm 2.0.

I have the i3 processor, which you would think would slow things down, but not so. Very robust performance. A few things to get used to…..the most annoying thing is the power button is not separated from the main keyboard…and I get why this was done from a cost perspective….Its just that i keep accidentally turning my machine off all the time… ARGH!.This is a very compact machine with a killer good screen. The size and aspect ration, takes some getting used to especially if you are used to conventional business laptops, but in the end its just great. This laptop, it has surpassed all expectations..

I am really impressed with this laptop. I have no complaints whatsoever. I am not a gamer, so I can’t comment on how this will run games with lots of graphics and such. But for what I use it for, internet surfing and ordering, emails, and you tube videos, it works excellent! The mouse touchpad works flawlessly. I have had laptops in the past where the touchpad for the mouse, is aggravating and useless, and I end up plugging in a wired or wireless mouse. This touchpad works so well, Im not bothered at all with using it. Once I got the hang of all of the gestures you use through the touch pad, I dont mind it at all. Only one small thing that I wish this laptop had was at least 2 usb 2.0, or 3.0 ports. It has only 1, but that is not a deal breaker for me. The keyboard is comfortable and easy to get used to. The keys are very consistently responsive, and they press in just enough to type efficiently on. I love that the keyboard lights up. It has 2 brightness settings, or off. This comes in handy in dark lit rooms, and I think it helps with the impressive appearance of a lower cost laptop. The battery life is excellent! I have not actually timed it to see if it is as advertised, but have used it on battery power for extensive periods of time without a charge. It also boots up and shuts down in 10 seconds or less. On the boot up, I able to use it right away. With my old laptop, just because it booted up and loaded my homescreen, I better not try to start doing things for several minutes, because it was still loading up, and I would just get the spinning circle.. Not this laptop however..It’s ready to go as soon as I get my homescreen with no lagging. It’s quick and snappy doing anything I want on it right from the start.I would definitely recommend this laptop for anyone on a budget. I can’t speak for the longevity of it just yet, but have been using it daily for about a month now with 0 issues at all. I was skeptical to buy this only because of the brand name, I had never heard of it. But I researched this brand name, and found many video reviews that showed the impressive qualities of it and based my decision on them.

Your browser does not support HTML5 video. This laptop is something really rare and priceless to the person who needs it; a set of specs that other manufacturer’s just plain refuse to make. It has a 3:2 2K screen, a thin metal shell, a good keyboard and a USB-C port with charging and video out. The only sacrifices you have to make to get these things are a few years outdated CPU, an older wireless card and a very mediocre webcam. If those are the sacrifices you would make to get those features at this price, this is your one choice, just like it was for me.I verified the wireless card is soldered and non upgradable after recording my video.A new version is coming with a quad-core i5-8259u, available in April.View my full review in 1080p60 and more CBX videos on my YouTube channel, “Ryan LeCocq”
