Battery life isn’t great and there is no touch screen but everything else is great

I’ve had the laptop for a week now it’s better than expected. I’ve been able to run war zone on high settings with Ray tracing without any issues. The fans do a good job keeping CPU and GPU cool but I still underclocked and use the TCC feature for a little more in thermal protection. Off battery using the Optimus feature I’m getting 3-4 hours on the batter which is also a bonus. I’ve always wanted an Alienware laptop since I was a kid and this thing doesn’t disappoint. Who needs an Xbox.

laptop plays everything including cyberpunk at max settings 300hz, so in this sense, its one of the best laptops ive ever had. it does get a little bit hot but it has a lot of fan options, so that’s easily fixable if you dont mind hearing a loud fan. as a streamer, wouldnt recommend using loud fan setting unless you have a noise cancelling mic. as a gamer, you must wear a headset because it will get loud at highest fan setting, but not necessary to use that setting at all.theres a few things i dont like. Missing number pad on the keyboard. which is a small thing. doesnt effect my rating since its something you could see in the pictures, but its worth noting. Also this laptop didnt come with any manual (sure it has a small paper that shows the ports, but thats all you get in the box besides the laptop and power adapter) Another thing i liked about my old alienware is they had this alienware respawn application, which allows you to make a backup image of your stock alienware setup in case you want to factory default. that software is non existent here, and there isnt a substitute for it either, so if i have to factory default this device i have to rely on weather or not the partition is corrupt, which sucks. Cant have an external backup or anything. But besides these little setbacks, its definitly a nice upgrade from my gtx 1070 msi laptop. and having that octa core in conjunction with rtx 3070, cant go wrong. VIRTUAL REALITY NEVER PLAYED SO SMOOTH for my vr friends out there. My first review on amazon, so totally worth writing~

The Alienware m15 R4 is an excellent choice for gaming on the go or in the event that you are unable to acquire the necessary parts for a tower pc at retail prices. This particular laptop comes with high end parts meant to last and provide superior gaming experiences. Overall a great choice for the price, considering this is for a laptop, so the convenience and portability in mind makes it a great reason to purchase if you’re an avid gamer. I do recommend buying a cooling mat or external cooling pad because the laptop runs a bit hot due to its compact design. The battery life lasted me around 4-5 hours when I was watching Netflix in FHD and playing games like Destiny 2, Apex Legends, and CoD: Warzone.

I went from a very budget friendly gamin pc laptop to this Alienware M15 R4. I opted for the 300mhz screen and RTX 3070 GPU that runs on the Intel Core i7-10870H and 16gb RAM, to be clear which one I am reviewing. Now just because I had a budget laptop previously does not mean I haven’t had my share of beefy systems in the past years as I am a veteran gamer. So my reaction comes with experience.Build QualityThe look, the feel, the presentation and build quality are top notch. The laptop feels solid. Its WAY lighter than my last laptop. Its not Macbook level but for a gaming laptop Im surprised at how sleek and shallow it is. I work as a graphic designer so showing up to a client meeting with a big ole ugly gaming computer was just out of the question for me. If your client isn’t a gamer, they wont think anything of your laptop other than that glowing alien head looks cool as heck! The RGB lighting is subtle but looks amazing. Very well designed and it can be fully customized or even turned off if you so desire. The lighting across the keys is not 100% consistent however. Its like they put just enough to light it up but there are some areas that vary in brightness. Its subtle and definitely not a deal breaker. I also notice that when set to white (which is what I like to set it at during the day) is not quite white but a little pink. So I manually added in a bit of blue to it so it looks better. Its unfortunate other reviews have received damaged goods. But that should be on a seller review not the product review. Please keep that in mind.PerformanceIll start with the 300hz monitor. All I can say is wow. Nice and bright. Clear enough. Its not 2k/4k but its clean. Not sure you would want a 4k laptop monitor (yet) but maybe in a few years. The refresh rate for gaming is just awesome. Seeing FPS go into the 200s on some games is just butter. Love the screen.3070 GPU – For me this GPU hit the sweet spot for me. Its not so overpriced as the 3080 or 3090 (or hard to find) so I can keep several hundred dollars off the cost but its not going to be outdated in a year or 2 which I feel like the 3060 is close to that already. For whatever its worth, this GPU handles most AAA games that Ive thrown at it. Everything renders amazingly and smooth as silk. And when I am doing my graphic work, video editing, or even some 3D modeling, it doesn’t miss a beat.AND I can also say the GPU does great in this machine with heat. Very rarely am I pushing it to its max. And even tho the Alienware software allows me to overclock the GPU, I have left it in standard mode and its done phenomenal.Which brings us to the Intel Core i7-10870H CPU. Its a great CPU, multi-thread, latest design, runs great. It can handle the games and even more so, it can handle my motion graphic and 3d modeling work easily. However it runs really HOT in this chassis. So much so that I often max it out at 100C. Good thing I monitor it closely and sometimes just have to take a break after playing a AAA game for a bit. I do notice if I have both the GPU and CPU fans going it does a better job at cooling down, but its unfortunate because then the fan noise gets loud. They are not obnoxious fans by any means, but still, a fan is a fan and it would be nice to not have to worry ALL the time. Im sure this is also a byproduct of how slim the laptop is so, if I had to choose, Ill take the slimmer design any day. Just need to find a good cooling pad that works. Now for the big bummer…RAM is fixed and cannot be changed. While I am generally getting 2999mhz out of RMA, as someone who likes to tinker this was a hard one to decide upon. Mostly because it comes back to the gaming laptops that do allow you to tinker are often big and bulky and was not what I wanted for this round. I understand why companies make this choice, doesn’t mean I have to like it, but for something that cannot be changed out, at least its high quality and is running at a high rate with no issues. Keep this in mind, as I think this comes down to personal choice. Id rather have high quality components I cant change rather than giving the company an excuse to put crappy unusable components simply because you CAN change them out, which is usually the story with other gaming laptops that do allow you to change out the ram. Just my 2 cents. So if you are deciding to get one of these, be sure to go for 16gb or more. 8gb just isnt going to cut it for very long.On the upside, it does have 3 bays for SSDs. x2 2280 slots and x1 2242(I believe, which is the shorter version). It comes with the the first 2280 slot occupied but all are NVMe so that is great. I saw some reports online to NOT get the RAID setup as it is wildly under-performing so just go with a straight 1tb and then add the additional space you need. I opted for another 1tb which is working out. If you like to download a LOT of games, then add a 2tb to be safe.Battery life is non-existent. You may get 2 hrs at the very BEST if you turn everything down, but never more than that. My last laptop was no different. I have not read one review on any powerhouse gaming laptop that has great battery life though, so, if you plan on gaming you need to be plugged in anyway. Not to mention, the GPU wont get the full load it needs on battery. Most laptops are like this as well so to me, not really a point I used to decide upon. They all suck and to run games you still need to be plugged in so if you are looking for a laptop to carry around campus or on the road, you shouldn’t even be considering a gaming laptop anyway. :DOverall I am very happy with the purchase. I think that if you are an older gamer and just want something that is sophisticated looking and performs just like any higher priced system, this is the best choice. If you are a tinkerer, and want what you want, then you may have to look somewhere else. But if you do decide on this laptop and plan to work by day and game by night, then be sure to get yourself a good cooling pad (as probably with any gaming laptop). Hope this helps! Good luck!

It’s a great laptop. Buy a cooling pad if you play cyberpunk 2077.

I wanted a laotop that can do anything wherever I go. I mainly bought it for work to edit videos and to play some games if I wanted to. I have the 16gb ram version and I was worried. I had YouTube playing a high quality video with discord video chat going on And Call of Duty warzone playing at the same time. I was very impressed with its performance! Played for 3 hours straight No problems whatsoever! My ram was hovering around 3 to 4GB. Still plenty of Room to do other things🙏 I ended up buying the matching mouse and headset which is a MUST if you’re going to play. I’m thinking about getting the monitor next! If you don’t go this route make sure you purchase a cooling pad. It makes a night and day difference! This computer will run hot. You can adjust settings to cool it down a little but the cooling pad will take care of the heating. I also bought the Alienware bag/ case. It’s a very snug fit which I like but in the long run you will end up scratching the tip/corner from the zipper. 🤷 Overall I highly recommend this computer to anyone! It’s super fast and the screen is amazing! If you are worried about 16 gigs of ram. Don’t. IT WILL HANDLE IT EASY! Hope this review helped! 🤙
