10 reviews for Thrustmaster T.Flight HOTAS 4 for PS4 and PC – PlayStation 4

  1. Robert

For flying games this has been perfect, especially for the price. I use it on Ace Combat 7, War Thunder, Air Missions HIND, and most recently Heliborne. For AC7 it works out-of-the-box, the others will require you to learn how to set it up, especially Heliborne. It takes a little bit to get it set up just right for each game but, the pay-off is more realistic controls. Take the time to learn it and you’ll have a fun play-through. It feels surprising solid for the price but, I wouldn’t recommend it for younger players or overly enthusiastic players (just like controllers, if you jerk the sticks around I’m sure it wouldn’t last long). It will need a firmware upgrade to version 25, not difficult if you follow the instructions. I really recommend at least a 32″ monitor for immersion (if your into that) and target tracking. Overall, a solid 5 star purchase.

Bought this to play Mechwarior 5 on pc which after configuring it, works great, though this particular stick is made to work on the ps4 for Ace Combat 7. It takes some getting used to and configuring it for Mechwarrior was a pain. Thankfully, that is the game only game i have had to manually configure the stick for.

    (1) I used it on Ultrawings and love the improved flight experience (have to figure out why sometimes the HOTAS disconnects though. May be that it’s competing against the wireless controller). (2) I also flew Ace combat, too, gaining more ease of control over flying and targeting (3) I was able to navigate the PS4 menu screen, too. Hopefully mod-community drives further development of options for other gaming soon. This is my day one review.

This thing is pretty sweet. From the look of Any pictures it looks kind of cheep – but that is far from the truth once in hand. It’s a bit bigger and heavier than anticipated and solid built very well even tho the shell on everything is plastic.Game play “regular or VR” with this flight stick is just awesome, smooth and fun at an entirely new level.I’m no-longer bummed I couldn’t buy and use the $400 (now like $1000 with throttle) thrustmaster hotas warthog for PC – like most of the other Thrustmaster gear I have. (Would have been nice but they aren’t PS4/5 compatible.)This Thrustmaster T-Flight is tho and it attached to my racing/flight sim rig (which was a nice little bonus)

I got this for Star Wars Squadrons, EVE Valkyrie and Elite Dangerous. Unfortunately, besides those three games, there aren’t many other games that support the HOTAS 4, certainly none that particularly appeal to me (I’m a sci-fi person, myself.; there are a few other games supported like Ace Combat or War Thunder, but they lack aliens and lasers, so I’ll be skipping those…) That said, if you have those games, this is without a doubt an excellent periphery for your PS4. Flight games played on gamepads, when played on the HOTAS 4, become an entirely new, fresh experience. The button layout takes some getting used to, but once you get the muscle memory down, you’ll never go back to a six-axis for flight games ever again. The controller itself is well made, with good tension in the flight stick and a subtle click that accompanies moving the throttle so you know approximately where it is without looking down. All of the buttons are positioned nicely to fit where your fingers naturally lie when gripping the stick and throttle. The flight stick has a twist axis that can be mapped to barrel rolling in SW: Squadrons, which can get a little confusing when you are barrel rolling to the right but turning to the left.If you have the money for it, I highly recommend getting a VR headset for Star Wars Squadron in addition to the HOTAS. When used in conjunction, the level of immersion is unreal.

I bought this exclusively for Star Wars: squadrons in PS4VR and am very pleased with this controller. I separated the stick and throttle and used some 2x4s and electrical tape , probably temporarily, so I could get going. Every button and movement can be customized/mapped to your liking. I also bought thrustmaster pedals as well. I mapped the pedals for rolling the ship instead of using the stick. The buttons are in great positions and the controllers themselves are very comfortable. My one complaint is that the when the controller is separated, the cord is 24 inches long which is just not long enough. 6 more and it would work, I have to step over it to sit down which is obviously annoying. If I’m nit picking, it would be nice to be able to add some resistance to the throttle, which you can do to the stick, it would just add to the experience.Overall, it’s a great controller and allows a very immersive experience. Barrel rolling around a Star destroyer while chasing a tie fighter in an x-wing is worth every dollar!Update: I bought a couple Ethernet cables, chopped em up, used some wire connectors, and was able to extend the two ft cable so I can sit down properly. It was intimidating. I used two Ethernet cords per controller cord( there are 16), just made it easier to make sure the wires were snug in the connectors. I used coban to wrap everything together when done. Anyway, controller still works great and I highly recommend thrustmaster pedals as well.

A must have for PS4. Great for Elite Dangerous, Ace Combat 7 skies, Eve Valkyrie and any other PS4 flight game. It is not built to last but excellent for the price. The AceCombat7 version seems to be better built than the regular version. No drift as far as I can tell. I bought one first from Best Buy. Had drifting issues immediately. I decided to take a chance on a special version and I was not disappointed. No drift or dead zone issue as far as I can tell. Will buy this version again as these controllers tend to go out after a year or so. Great buy for the Buck.

I was looking at this Hotas as well as the Hori Hotas. I was able to play around with the Hori in a nearby electronic store, and, like almost everyone else stated, there is a massive dead zone when turning your aircraft. The overall joystick is nice to hold, and does look nice, but what good is it if it isn’t functional? Definitely cannot justify the cost. On the other hand, the T.Flight Hotas 4 by Thrustmaster is by far better than the Hori. It’s simple to use, and I mean very simple to use. The layout of the buttons are perfectly placed within reach of your fingertips. Another key point to mention is the throttle handle. The throttle is kinda smooth. I’d prefer if it was more firm, but cant really complain. Also, in Ace Combat 7, the proper amount of thrust is given with the proper amount of throttle-meaning, its not just low, medium and high. It’s actually variable, which is a huge plus in my opinion. The handling is excellent. You could even attach the throttle and stick together with the hex-screws on the bottom of the Hotas. If you are trying to get into any flight games, for the PS4 or PC, this is a must-buy! Plus, at fraction of the cost of the Hori, why not??

Bought this for Star Wars Squadrons but will use it for other games too now that I know how good it is. Idk about the squeaking problem some reviews complain about but mine doesn’t squeak. And I’m pretty sure if it did that would be nothing a delicate application of some wd40 couldn’t remedy. There is a dial on the bottom to increase or decrease the resistance of the stick which is a really cool feature that I wasn’t aware of until the item got here. It is pleasantly big and weighty, although I could see this being a problem for children or anyone with really little hands. Although there is an option to separate the throttle from the stick, they are tethered by a very short cable and the separated configuration provides weaker stability if not mounted to a stand. I find that the joined configuration works fine for me with the help of a cheap lap desk I already had. Just sit in an office chair and bam, instant cockpit. For some people though the configuration might be too cramped, so consider that when purchasing. If I had one complaint it’s that the throttle lacks any real sense or resistance. It feels like it slides around easy. If this is a purchase you’re making for children make sure to warn them not to slam the throttle back and forth too hard because I feel like this could quickly break it. All in all, for the price, i would say this is one of the better peripherals I’ve owned (and I’ve owned quite a few, just for context). For fans of flight sims or those looking to better immerse themselves in the psvr experience this is a solid buy.

This game made Elite Dangerous 10x better!!! I cannot stop playing it. If you love spaceship simulators, don’t sleep on the Hotas 4 for the PS4. It works well with Ace Combat 7 too. I love that theres custom mapping for the controller. You have so much more variety than a plain ps4 controller. I hook up my external keyboard and its like im on pc. I will be buying this for my friend that plays this game with me so we can squad up!!
