10 reviews for Sony DSCW830 20.1 MP Digital Camera with 2.7-Inch LCD (Silver)

  1. True-Review

I’m no expert, so this is a good camera for me. I also hate reading a lot of directions, but that was no problem. This was easy enough to figure out between a bit of reading and a few minutes on YouTube. PROS: Easy to figure out, small as a deck of cards, has a lens protector, can look up more detailed directions online (for trouble-shooting); CONS: Doesn’t come with a protective case, doesn’t come with a memory card, a little on the slow side -but that doesn’t bother me. It took Rembrandt a lot longer.

I love the way this camera takes pictures. There is a lot of stuff you can do with this thing. Love the zoom and focus features on this. There is way too much to say and tell you about this camera that I don’t have enough room. I would buy this again and again. Sony just keeps upgrading their products to better and better quality. Way to go Sony!! Like the fact that it covers the lens of camera when off and it shuts off automatically . I am old school and have a great deal to learn about all the functions on this camera. Where I work we have 20 of them and I use one off and on so that is where I first learned of this camera. Light weight and very thin. Everyone should have one of these if they don’t have a smart phone camera.

This is my second Sony DSCW830, I abused the first one carrying it around in my pocket unprotected. The first one developed a shadow across the print face but I liked the camera enough to buy again. This camera is easy on batteries, I’ve never run the battery down to empty. It is a point and shoot, it takes a few seconds to auto adjust the focus but it is a 120 USD camera so it is to be expected. Picture quality is about what you get for a hundred and twenty dollars, good enough.

Bought this for a trip to south america because I broke the camera on my galaxy phone. I am not a professional photographer so I was looking for something simple and good. I would buy this if you are looking for the same thing. The photos are all made with this camera.

When I first got this camera I was wondering if I made a mistake. Yes I was looking for the impossible, an inexpensive digital camera with a fairly descent zoom and good features. Can this camera take pictures in rapid succession? No. In continuous mode it will do 3 shots at 1 FPS. Can you zoom in on the pictures and see good detail? Yes and No. Even set at 20meg the images sometimes do not bear close scrutiny if taken under low light, like indoors at night. But with enough light on the subject it takes excellent images. Did I experience a lag when taking pictures? Well yes and no. The camera takes a little getting used to. While the closest focusing distance on full wide is 5 inches, once you start to use the zoom, that close focusing distance extends out to 5 feet. So if what you want to take a picture of is within 5 feet, just keep the camera on wide and walk up to take the shot. If you can’t walk up to take the picture then use the zoom. Until I figured this out I was very frustrated wondering why the camera would not lock focus on the subject. So after all of these faults why have I given this camera 5 stars. Well you get what you pay for. I have a Sony DSLR and a Sony all in one. Both cost about $1,000 at the time of purchase. Those take fantastic pictures but you can’t fit them in a shirt pocket. It is unfair to compare a camera that costs a little over $100 to those. But for what I intended, this little DSC-W830 is fantastic. I get very descent shots which I view on my 27″ monitor. It fits conveniently in a pocket and (once you understand the controls and get used to how it handles) takes pictures quickly and accurately enough for my needs. If I need better I get out my more expensive cameras. But for convenience and ease of use this little camera is a gem.

If your are looking for a small Camera ,with a German Zeiss Lens, that takes really good pictures ,for under $150,this is the only one. I spent 16 days in The Galapagos Islands ,and the “Nasty” (So hot ,humid, rains all the time). The Amazon Jungle Rainforest. It was so bad ,I thought my Camera would stop working. But it survived just fine.

I am not a fan of Phone Pictures, and we travel quite a bit. I wanted something that was easy to carry (Fits in your pocket), takes great pictures and is easy to change either the battery or the chip. This camera has everything going for it. Picture quality is great and the battery lasts a long time. I purchased two extra batteries and a separate charger. That has worked perfectly. This is an excellent product.

I have used sony’s for years. I bought this one for underwater pictures. Don’t freak out, I know it’s not an under water camera. I use a dry bag. I have taken several of my regular cameras under water in dry bags, the pictures are far better than what I see from underwater cameras. With underwater cameras getting such poor reviews I decided to start with older sony camera’s in dry bags. I now will try this one as it is smaller and seems easier to handle than some of my other cameras. I also will use this kayaking in a dry bag as well. No extra filters needed and the ease of the settings can be changed while in the bag.

My wife loves this camera! It is the only one she will use. She can take professional quality pictures just as good if not better than the professionals. Plus she can capture lighting bolts with the continuous shooting mode.

I just got this camera today. I have been using a Canon EOS 40D for years, and I love it. However, many times it is just too big to have with me when I see a chance for a photo shoot. This camera seems to be an excellent low-cost model, with fast shots, sharp photos, and a nice range of wide angle and zoom for a little carry-along. It will take a while to get used to using the settings and finding out the capabilities of this camera, but the photos I’ve taken today are pretty nice. I am hopeful it will be a wonderful addition to my photo-taking life.I will post updates as I learn more about how well it does its job.
