I’ve been looking for a laptop that’s not too expensive or too cheap either. And this laptop was beyond my expectations. I love how it has two areas, on the left side and right side of it that you can plug the charger to charge the laptop. It chargers fast. And very light weight. Picture quality and sound quality are really great as well. If your like me and are looking for a laptop that won’t make you go broke but works like a high end laptop, well this is for you!

I’ve never had anything but Windows in the past thirty years but I can honestly say I will never go back after buying this HP Chromebook! It’s wonderful in so many ways it would take a book to list it all! No more expensive virus protection programs, no cluttering up the computer with software since it’s all on the cloud now! If you are looking for an inexpensive laptop for home or school use I highly recommend this one! You won’t be sorry….I’m not!!

I’m a Mac guy for the most part. My main computer is an iMac, but I’ve always had a Windows laptop for use when travelling etc (too cheap to buy a Macbook….). My Windows laptop died at a time when I really needed one and I saw this and thought what the heck, I’ll give it a try.I’m very pleased. For online use, it’s absolutely fine. The screen resolution isn’t up to my Mac, but my Windows laptop wasn’t either. I don’t really like that I’m logged on to Google (and being tracked) whenever I use it, but I don’t do anything online that I’d be ashamed of so I guess that’s OK.It was a little bit tricky to get online for the first time, but that’s pretty well documented out on the web, and it was easy to get beyond the issue. Not really anything to worry about.The battery life is very good. Haven’t used the camera, so I don’t know about that. But it’s lightweight and portable and runs plenty fast. I think it’s a very good value.

HP Chromebook 14 Laptop, Intel Celeron N4000 Processor, 4 GB RAM, 32 GB eMMC, 14” HD Display, ChromeThe Chromebook comes packaged simply in a plain brown recyclable cardboard box. Inside the box, the Chromebook is padded with this recyclable formed cardboard padding instead of foam or plastic. I think that’s a very good step on HP’s part to protect the planet’s future by using recyclable materials.Inside the box, you have the Chromebook itself, a quick start instruction booklet in a baggie, and a small fold-out warranty and tech support booklet. The power supply is the common two-part brick and cord that is familiar to laptop users everywhere. What makes this power supply a little different in my eyes, is that it’s a USB-C power supply rather than the more common old-style plug. Since most devices are shipped with less than a full charge on them, I plugged the Chromebook in to charge while I take a look at the instruction booklet. When you plug it in to charge, there is a small LED next to a plug-in that glows amber to show that it’s charging. The setup instructions are a very thin one-page booklet. I’ve noticed that most manufacturers these days are not including the big thick instruction booklet that we old school guys got in the laptops of yesteryear, the booklets are much thinner and if you want to look at the entire manual you’ll need to download it or sometimes they put it on the laptop itself.Set up instructions are pretty simple, they recommend plugging in to charge, makes sense, then turning it on. Once you open the Chromebook it recommends that you follow the online Google screen instructions to set up with your Google account, and then use the Google launcher in the lower-left corner of the task part to open the Chrome Desktop. The rest of the instruction booklet deals with where all of the individual components are of the Chromebook such as where the internal microphones and camera are located and gives you the multi-finger gestures that are accepted by the touchpad. Since that pretty much exhausts the paper instructions, let’s just go to the Chromebook itself. When you open the Chromebook the screen is brightly lit and welcomes you. There are accessibility options and options to change the native language on the first screen should you choose to do so, and a bright blue button labeled let’s go. Since this model is not a touch screen, I use the trackpad to start the setup. The first thing it asks for is to connect to your local Wi-Fi network. So you log into your local Wi-Fi, except the Google terms of services and it launches into checking for updates. This makes sense because no matter how new a unit is there’s a good chance that there’s been an update between the time it was manufactured and it arrives at your house. Once it checks for updates, the next stage of setup asks who’s using the Chromebook-u or a child. If you’re setting it up for a child to use you can set the digital ground rules so that the kids don’t get into anything they shouldn’t. Once you’ve chosen that, it asks you to sign in to your Chromebook with your Google account. If you have forgotten your account passwords, it does offer other ways to sign in including using your phone or tablet to get a security code which can be handy. In my case, this was a good thing because the password that I thought I had remembered, was incorrect. Google helped me reset my password, using my email address and my phone for doubles security. Once I reset my password and finish logging in, it immediately logged me into Chrome and opened Google Chrome, loading all of my personal presets. Google was pretty good about that in general, especially if you share your settings across multiple devices. Be advised though, if you reset your Google password [as I had to because I couldn’t remember] it will make you relog into any of your Google devices. I like to sync my devices and my functions, and since I’m dictating to my phone as I’m doing this review, it made me log back into my phone as well. Props to Google for their security.Resuming the setup, if you like to use Google Assistant it gives you a prompt to do the vocal recognization procedures so that Google will be able to understand you better. There’s a side note in the machine here, that Google Assistant will only function in the background while you have AC power, to save energy. Since I’m already set up with Google Assistant as I do ask Google things on a regular basis, I didn’t have to do this and the assistant was ready automatically since I had logged into my accounts. Once everything is loaded, on the bottom center of the screen you have five shortcuts that Google has populated automatically: Google Chrome, Gmail, Google docs, YouTube, and the Play store. On the far left-hand side of the test, the bar that is the Google launcher which opens a search panel and all of the apps that you have installed on the machine. On the lower right-hand side of the taskbar is a small digital clock, a battery icon, your Wi-Fi connection icon, and a notification icon. The notification icon pops open your most common settings, sound, illumination, and your usual Android-type notifications such as Bluetooth status and Wi-Fi status. Your shutdown and lock buttons are here as well and any device notifications that are necessary. For example, there is an update available for this machine but it requires a restart. With Chromebooks, it will not restart automatically on you, you tell it when to restart which I think is a good thing so you won’t lose anything or be interrupted in a task. I went ahead and triggered the update, which didn’t take long. Now that I have logged into the machine, when it starts it prompts me to put my password in again, which I think is another good example of Google security.In general usage, for the most part, use my Chromebook for surfing the web and playing some simple games online, which mainly go through Google Chrome, being web-based. I also do things like dictating this review to a Google Document. I find that helps me a lot to keep notes that way since I can access them through different devices. The vast majority of what this device does, and does well is all connected to being online. Offline, there’s not a whole lot this can do because there’s not a lot of storage build into it. Yes, you can add a mini SD chip to add extra storage, which I definitely recommend. In my opinion, there’s no such thing as having too much storage on your device. the bottom line on this Chromebook? This is the fastest, smoothest, Chromebook I have ever owned. I like its lightness, and its speed doing the most common tasks that I do every day. If you have need of a new Chromebook, I don’t think you could go wrong but this one, give it a shot.

I’m an elementary school teacher who uses google drive for planning & bought this chromebook to function as my planning tool, for email communication, internet surfing, and to transport back and forth from school/home. I’ve only had it a few days and it’s great!! I never write reviews and I was hesitant to buy because of some of the negative comments about the “tech specs” of this chromebook (idk what they mean anyway). Honestly, it’s great. I can make my slide shows, view videos, and work with all my TPT resources in my drive. Mine was carefully packaged and in perfect condition. It was so easy to plug in and start working! In my opinion- it looks great too! My boyfriend didn’t know I bought it and when he walked in the door and glanced he said “Wait did you get a new MacBook?” Before he saw the “HP” lol! It’s a great little chromebook if you’re looking to do similar day-to-day things for your classroom! I can’t speak to its Zoom capabilities though I haven’t tried it (and hopefully that’s all behind us now).

I wanted a laptop to use when I don’t feel like transferring to my power wheelchair to sit at my computer. I wanted something inexpensive, lightweight, and easy to use. This is just what I need. I keep it by my bed and keep it charged so it’s available whenever I need it. Although I have need to carry it anywhere, it is small and light and would be very easy to take to meetings or anywhere.

Great look and feel, build quality seems high as far as chromebooks go. Sound is decent, nothing like a stand-alone bluetooth speaker but gets the job done for personal listening in a small room. Boots up quick, and handles word processing, emails, browsing, streaming etc with ease, just dont expect to game or stream on it. If you need a basic computer thats responsive, simple, and looks great, this is it!

I am not a computer genius but I know what I like. This slim, slick little machine arrived on time and fit the budget. Set up was easy and the first charge was done in less than an hour. This is a bit smaller than the one being replaced but I knew that when I purchased it. Believe me, downsizing was a good thing. Anyway, I bought this computer and I approve this review. 🙂

It’s great, and serves my purposes. Speakers are wonderful. Processing is faster than I thought. This a great little device if you don’t need a full laptop. Really if you pair it with a flash drive you have everything you need. It’s a google product so you will use google word processing, spread sheets, and slide presentations. They do have apps for the Microsoft products if you really want to use them instead.

LOVE THIS CHROMEBOOK. this is compact, lightweight, good quality, and works as described. I have the hp laptop for work, but I wanted to chromebook for working from home and personal use. It supplements my work computer well. I cannot believe the value for the price. Buy it!! Don’t hesitate.
