After passing off last year’s model to my brother (3500U Flex 14), I got this as soon as I saw it posted up on Reddit. I’m thankful I did, since it was sold out within an hour or two and has been since.Let’s get the rundown here.- Ryzen 5 4500U 6c6t APU- Radeon Vega 6 graphics- 16 GB of DDR4-3200 MHz dual-channel RAM (CL 22, but that’s par for the course for a consumer laptop)- 256 GB SK Hynix NVMe SSD- 1080p IPS touchscreen w/digitizer (pen included!)Build quality is about as good as you can get without moving to all metal. The keyboard deck is rubberized, and the outside is built solidly – no creaking! Hinge is strong, but it opens up almost all the way with one hand (tilts towards the end). The overall design is darn near similar to last year’s model, but built a bit more “premium.” One exhaust vent at the back, but as you’ll see later it really doesn’t need 2.I mainly focused on CPU performance, as benchmarks for this flavor of Vega 6 are all over the place already, and given the thermals I saw performance should be what you’ll find elsewhere. Long story short – roughly 10% faster than the 3500U’s Vega 8 at less power (15 W vs 25 W).The benchmarks speak for themselves, but I was very surprised at what this thing was capable of. I ran these on the included USB-C wall charger (which was a surprising inclusion considering the laptop has a barrel jack for power). The only thing to keep in mind is that this was tested when my room temperature was in the upper 70s to lower 80s, so you could see the temp results as a “worst case” scenario. 77c absolute max during Geekbench is crazy for this thing, especially considering how thin it is. Never got too loud, either. Fan isn’t whiny at all!Camera is acceptable. Nothing to write home about, but it’ll work well enough for video calls. Battery is excellent – while browsing the web and watching videos, I have been consistently draining 10% per hour of use! That 10 hour claim from Lenovo seems pretty spot on.Honestly, I could think of only 3 things that would make this laptop better, but all of them would definitely drive up the price/bump it up a tier:- 120 Hz FreeSync display like the (crippled by 8 GB RAM) IdeaPad Slim 7- Ryzen 4600U/4800U options for more threads (4700U option is now available in some places)- Metal constructionI’ll personally be upgrading the storage, but overall it’s amazing.

NOTICE: The Lenovo Rep is wrong about some things in the Q&A. This laptop has the Lenovo Pen Inculuded with it ($30 normally) and the RAM operates in Dual Channel (this gives better CPU and GPU performance in this laptop)LIKES:-While the chassis of the laptop is not metal, it has a very nice texture to it and feels excellent-Battery life is great and I have no complaints there-The keyboard is solid and has a nice click to it.-The trackpad is a bit small, but feels nice-The backlit keyboard is nice to have-The design of the laptop is very nice and the dark grey is a great color for it-16gb of RAM is more than enough for a daily driver computer-Gaming performance will never be the same is a computer with a dedicated graphics card, but in can get a locked 60 FPS at medium to high settings in games like Counter-Strike: Global Offensive and Rocket League.-The speakers are decent and they are pointed at you-The SSD is very fast-This laptop is easy to take apart and the M.2 SSD can be upgraded easily.DISLIKES-The screen is not great, but it is decent. I give it a C+-Since the screen is a touch screen reflections are a bit rough, but this is to be expected.OVERALL:THIS IS A GREAT LAPTOP AND A STEAL FOR $600!!! IF YOU ARE ON THE FENCE, TAKE THE PLUNGE!!!

The new Ryzen 4000 series makes laptops much more capable at a lower price point. Basic gaming, and browsing done with such efficiency on this platform.Laptop comes with a stylus and a USB C charger to clear out any confusion from the Q&A section.Honestly, price to performance ratio including the flexibility of this laptop is a must buy for this price point!

Overall amazing laptop for price point.Pain points:Not bright at all, even in indoor environment Im always trying to turnup the brightness past the maxTouch screen: Always wanted to try it but quickly got over it, I actually can’t think of any use caseUSB C can’t do video out, had to choose dock that specifically supports video out over usb 3ARegret choosing a 13′ screenBut overall paying 600$ for 6 core, 16 GB 3200 MHz, NVME compatibility is an still an amazing dealIt looks like they will keep the 600$ for a while though so I just recommend waiting for the next batch of ryzen laptop releases if you canUpdate:I was able to output display (using DisplayLink driver) from both the usb c port as well as the usb a port using this dock:https://www.amazon.com/QGeeM-Docking-Station-Outputs-Ethernet/dp/B0823BQ4PK/ref=sr_1_1_sspa?dchild=1&keywords=QGeeM+USB+3.0+Docking+Station&qid=1590948886&s=electronics&sr=1-1-spons&psc=1&spLa=ZW5jcnlwdGVkUXVhbGlmaWVyPUE5NUI3TUU1OEdQMEkmZW5jcnlwdGVkSWQ9QTA5NDMzMDUzSU5MSzQyMFc1WDBYJmVuY3J5cHRlZEFkSWQ9QTA4NzQwOTExM01IMlYwUkNUQ0ZOJndpZGdldE5hbWU9c3BfYXRmJmFjdGlvbj1jbGlja1JlZGlyZWN0JmRvTm90TG9nQ2xpY2s9dHJ1ZQ==I also connected ethernet to the dock and turned off wifi, and still had internet (using usb-c port and usb-a port). So I think the specs are misleading, you can totally output display with the usb-c port! Which is a huge pro and addresses my only concern with this laptop.

For a lightweight, 2-in-1, powerful laptop for $600, it’s a steal:2-in-1 form factor.4500U 6 core16GB of 3200mhz ramVega graphicsBacklit keyboardFingerprint scannerFree Digital penUSB-C ChargerI like it:The 4500U cpu? It’s amazing! This budget laptop underdog meets or beats my desktop i7 4790K at any metric. That’s a legendary, mainstream flagship, 4/8 gaming processor from 2014. It’s astonishing what this budget laptop CPU can do. It powers through web browsing tabs effortlessly and opens zipfiles rapidly. The screen looks really nice for a lower tier laptop. It’s IPS so the angle views look great, the colors also seem decent and vivid right out of the box and the brightness is reasonable. Compared to my high end, $1k, IPS HDR, full color gamut gaming monitor, it doesn’t look bad at all.The case/body doesn’t look budget or feel budget to the touch. It also feels sturdy and solid as you open and close it or type on it. It also has a relatively thin bezel around the screen, giving it a more premium look. The keyboard feels pretty good too. On the laptop scale, I’d call it middle of the road. There are two levels of backlighting. The free digital pen is a neat addition, but I’ve only begun to play with that. It takes one AAA battery that is also included. (isn’t that nice)The speakers, for a laptop, sound good. It does not sound completely tinny and hollow. There is actually a bit of range and clarity and even a hint of bass. They get reasonably loud and don’t seem to distort at 100%. Like the keyboard, I’d put these laptop speakers somewhere in the middle of the laptop sound range. While this is by no means a gaming laptop, if you are trying to squeeze as much gaming into the basic laptop budget as you can, this little PC does admirably. It’s pretty incredible how well this does with no dedicated video card. It’s almost as fast as my 2016 i5 laptop with a GeForce 940MX is for gaming. Just about ~10% slower. With no video card! This is a lot better than any of the Intel UHD620 gaming numbers. Enough so that a whole new class of gaming is actually doable on this “regular” laptop. It does get a little warm with intensive gaming. Under a really heavy load, CPU gets to 70 degrees and spikes up to the 80s. But this is only when you are really pushing the gaming limits. On that note, after 5 minutes of CPUZ stress testing, it sits at 85 degrees. The laptop could get uncomfortable if you actually had it on your lap. Not crazy hot but a bit warm. For less taxing games, it barely breaks a sweat. The fan really isn’t all that loud under load either. It can be heard, but that’s about it. I use “Open Hardware Monitor” to monitor temps, clock speeds and ram usage.Upgrading the small nvme drive and wifi card looks to be a piece of cake with this unit. Many laptops that give you no access panels have a scare factor in opening up the whole case. This one though, it has a removeable bottom that is almost completely flat and not molded into the sides, as many others are. It makes re-assembly a breeze and chances are you won’t break anything or end up with any new creaking sounds. Make sure you have a (tiny) torx bit set if you plan to open it. The ram is soldered in but at least it’s 16gb and not just 8.Benchmarks:SSD speed: Max Write: 994MB/sec // Max read: 2.20GB/secCPUZ benchmark – 489 / 2678Cinebench 15 – 890 // 54.9 FPSCinebench 20 – 2245V-RAY 4.1 – 4990 // 27Skydiver – 9565Unigine Superposition – 1715 (default setting) [13 FPS avg]Unigine Valley – 1457 (basic 720p setting) [35 FPS avg]Game FPS:CS:GO [max settings, 1080p] avg 46//low 29Super Mega Baseball 3 [max settings,1080p] avg 45//low 32Insurgency [max settings,1080p] avg 51//35STALKER – SOC [max settings, 1080p] avg 50//low 29Civilization VI bench [low settings,1080p] avg 58//low 45Civilization VI – Average turn time: 7.84 seconds (!)Assassin’s Creed Oddysey bench[low settings,720p] avg 33//low 17The Witcher 3 [low settings,720p] avg 35//low 27What I don’t like:-The 256GB SSD is half of what it probably should be and a quarter of what I “need”. Being replaced with a 1TB ($110) along with the outdated wifi/BT card ($20).-The memory card slot is the archaic shallow style, 2/3 of an inserted SD card sticks out.-No dedicated volume control on edge of unit.-It has a useless legacy charging port and they do not send that type of charger. So, the power cord is not connected at the corner where it “should” be, it’s connected 1/3 of the way down the body at the USB-C port.-One USB-C port and it’s occupied by the power cord.-Only 2 full size, USB ports.-In tablet mode, there are no mini rubber feet on the keyboard side so instead, it just sits on the entire face when laid down. Could get scratched easy and it completely blocks the speakers.- The keyboard backlighting, when it’s dormant/off, the keyboard does not sense you hovering over it to light the keys back up prior to touching them (like some can). You need to move the mouse/pad or touch a key to get it to light back up.-Waking from sleep mode (so far once), the CPU would not clock back up above 400mhz, all 6 cores. It’s like it got stuck in a low power mode. Restarting resolved it but something to watch for if the system acts suddenly anemic.Overall, this is a really good 2-in-1 laptop. It just needs a bigger drive to make it a great budget powerhouse / light gamer. For this price, it’s hard to find any deal breaking complaints.

There are tons of reviews raving about how good this is and.. I agree! Here are my own insights into this device:1. Great battery performance. Seriously this thing packs about 6 or 7 hours battery life under light use. Obviously if you are gaming or doing other CPU intensive tasks the battery will drain faster but for everyday usage this is perfect.2. 16 GBs of RAM is essential. I cannot stress this enough. This is one of the only laptops (if not the only one) with 16 gigs of RAM at this price-point. For college use this is fantastic! This means you can have multiple web pages, Word, PowerPoint and other utility programs open and this thing (coupled with the fantastic Ryzen 5 4600 chip) will devour those tasks for you. You can probably find more “premium” laptops with better screens and storage at about a 200/250 price increase but for college use those things are not really essential. For more storage simply buy and external HD or swap the SSD.3. Speaking of the screen, this one is just fine. Others reviewers say it’s way too dim, 250 nits is not enough, it sucks outdoors, but imo this isn’t really an issue. I assume most of your work will be done indoors anyways, so a screen with those minor drawbacks should not really be an issue for most. Indoors the screen is bright and crystal clear, and if your upgrading from a laptop that came out 4 or 5 years ago, (like me) the screen will probably look amazing to you.4. CPU/GPU: it’s Ryzen what else could you ever ask for? The new mobile processors are fantastic, energy efficient, and offer great performance at lower cost than Intel. Why would you use Intel at any price-point when Ryzen has an equivalent at a cheaper cost to your wallet? As for the GPU, this comes with integrated Vega 6 graphics which I was surprised as to how good they performed Temper your expectations of course, this won’t run AAA games at high or even medium settings, but that’s not where these laptops excel. For indie games, Civ 6, Sims 4 and games of similar graphical intensity this laptop will perform amazingly. Currently playing Rimworld, and FM2020 and the performance has been excellent. Can’t really think of any major drawbacks. For what I paid this laptop offers anything I could need and doesn’t break my wallet like other devices would. This is absolutely the best sub 600 dollar laptop in the market right now.Update 8/5/20 POTENTIAL HUGE ISSUESo after a month of having this I found an issue that has not been mentioned by anyone else in the review section. The laptop has an option that allows it to be turned on by flipping the screen open without pressing any bottons. I don’t remember if it was on by default, or if I turned on myself, but DO NOT USE THIS FEATURE! The laptop has an issue where any slight movement to the screen will register as lid open. This includes slight touches to top section of the device, if you press the lid down slighty, or if you carry it arround in a bag or backpack were it will constantly come in contact with other objects (books, binders etc).YOU do not want this on. If your laptop turns on and you have it in a close down space it will heat up. It won’t happen quickly, but after an hour or so of being fully powered, with little air flow the machine will start to heat up. It happened to me but thankfully I caught it before it burned out the system. TURN OFF THIS SETTING.Go to the Lenovo vantage application>power settings>flip on. Turn this option off. This is a structural design issue with the laptop, the setting is probably fine in other devices. This could be a deal breaker for many, otherwise this laptop has excellent performance for this price-point.

Before I tell you about how good the product is, I have to give feedback on the Lenovo Rep(s). Before the product was available, I asked if the laptop had dual channel and or single channel memory. This is easily the most important specification in terms of performance for AMD laptops because the integrated graphics are very powerful, but you essentially lose half of the igpu performance with single channel memory. The rep told me (and subsequently another person) that the laptop has single channel memory. This is incorrect. I looked up the model number of the laptop on Geekbench and it clearly stated that it is dual channel. I received my laptop and checked with CPUZ, it also says dual channel. Now some people may say “well what are you complaining for? You’re mad because your laptop is better than they said it was?” No, I’m upset because the rep’s job is to give correct information to consumers so that they can make good purchasing decisions. Incorrect information causes lost sales and it makes both AMD and Lenovo look incompetent. If you look through all of the questions on the Amazon product page, you will see a few other instances of incorrect information.Just to be clear, this is a very good product in my opinion. It comes with a usb-c charger, a stylus, a mechanical shutter for the webcam, a ten keyless led keyboard. The screen is decent, obviously not something you would use for professional graphic design but it is still very good for the average user. The build quality is great, very solid. The 2 in 1 functionality is very cool in combination with the stylus. The performance is in a completely different league from anything else in this price range. AMD’s new Ryzen 4000 cpu’s are insane. Benchmarked next to my 2500U, this 4500U is about 90% faster in terms of cpu performance. The igpu is up to 50% faster than the Vega 8 graphics in my 2500U. This laptop is ideal for a mixture of office work, consuming media, and light gaming. If you want something to play LoL, Dota, Rocket League, CSGO, etc or random indie games on Steam, then this laptop can do that. For $600 there is nothing you can get from Intel that can match this performance without having a discrete Nvidia gpu. The only thing I dislike is that the SSD is 256GB, but I have a 512GB mini usb that I can use for media so it’s fine.My first impressions: highly recommend… but get your stuff together, Lenovo Rep, whoever you are.

Let me start by saying that I don’t understand the problem people are having with the display. If that has you on the fence about this laptop go ahead and buy it. It is a full high definition display and it is gorgeous. I have been watching Netflix and Hulu on it and there is nothing wrong with the brightness or the display. Now that I got that out of the way…I am not an expert but I have been working on computers since I was a kid. This device is one of the best computers I have ever owned. The processor can handle average workloads like email, internet browsing and television and music streaming. I don’t do a lot of gaming but I have seen people who have used it for gaming say that it depends on the game that you are playing the performance you will get.The tablet feature is incredible because you don’t know what you are missing from a 14 inch tablet until you have one in your hands. I put it in tent mode to watch television in the kitchen while I am cooking. Put it in laptop mode to write. The unit comes with a stylist that you can use when you turn on white board mode. The stylist can also be programmed for things like changing the volume or opening the internet.I took a chance on this laptop because I was concern about the reviews saying that the display was dim and maybe compared to a laptop 3 times the price of this one it may be, but for the money this laptop give you 16 gb of memory and a nice size hard drive and an AMD processor that is super fast and will get you through your work from home projects.A laptop, a tablet, and a white board, with a fingerprint reader for security for $600? Go ahead and hit buy now like I did.. You will be glad that you did.

I am writing this review on the computer. I am very happy with the product.Pros:Good screenGreat KeyboardThin formfactorDecent port selectionIncredible performanceGreat ValueCons:The trackpad is not super high quality, just decent with a tiny bit of perceivable wobbleBacklit keyboard is a little dimAvailability seems to be spottyThe device seems well built, even while being made entirely of plastic. It feels solid, the hinge is smooth and has very little wobble. The screen flex is minimal and opening with one hand is possible. The keyboard is one of the strengths here. Good key travel and spring back, and not a lot of give in the deck. Screen is a glossy IPS panel with around 250 nits of advertised brightness. I’d say it’s definitely brighter than that. Closer to my 300 nit portable minitor. No dead pixels and not a lot of back light bleed. The color reproduction of the screen is adequate, but color accuracy is certainly not perfect here. Good enough for everything except work requiring that accuracy. The included active stylus is a nice addition. Good for taking notes and doodling. I am no artist so I can’t really give a lot of insight into the pen. I can only say that it’s based off of Wacom drivers and software and they have a tremendous reputation. The port selection is good for an ultrabook. 2 USB-A, 1 USB-C charging/data/display port, HDMI 2.0 port, and a full SD card reader. There is also a fingerprint reader that’s okay and a camera with physical privacy shutter. Windows Hello is not available on this device.Battery life is pretty good. I’d say 6-7 hours is about average for light gaming, web browsing, video streaming, ect. Fast charging is available via USB-C, and, anecdotally, I’ll say that it seems to charge very quickly. The power brick that came with the device is compact and fairly light. Now we get to the meat. The Ryzen 4000 series is incredible. This computer is so powerful, able to keep up with every task easily and stay pretty cool. I have been running quite a few games on it as well. The igpu in this device is more than up to the task of running emulators all the way up to GameCube and PS1/PSP. It can also handle some more modern titles as well. Like Euro Truck Sim, and Ori. I think the graphics power is on par with the MX150, probably a little better. You could also play esports titles with some tweeks to settings. For $600 You’d be very hard pressed to find a better performing device In this form factor.
