UPDATE after one year: Over time, the unit started to eat through batteries MUCH faster. No idea why. As an experiment, I tried removing the battery after each use, and this solved the problem. So from now on, I just pop out the battery when I’m done, which isn’t too inconvenient. You can always check the battery level in Settings, within the app. Overall, after one year, I am still very pleased with the unit. What I use this for – I’m a rower. I primarily use this with my Concept 2 rowing machine, and it connected right away with the PM5 on my machine. It also works flawlessly with Concept2’s app for this, called ErgData, which records your workouts on your phone and then uploads them to the Concept2 Logbook online. The “Polar Beat” App, and website profile – To use this HR monitor, you’ll need to download Polar’s “Polar Beat” app, and create an account which will automatically sync your workouts to your account which you can see in more detail on the website. I have an Android, I’ve had no issues with the app, and I think the overall layout is clear, user-friendly, and not too bulky. I’ve also had no connectivity issues, and RARELY ever have a loss of connection or hiccup in any readings. However, I would not trust any data related to distance or pace. As seen in my screenshot, my phone interpreted my straight path down a street as totally zig-zagged. The distance and pace is not accurate as a result. But I’m assuming this is my phone’s GPS which is wrong, and probably(?) not the app. Luckily, I am not a runner so I personally don’t care about this issue, but just pointing out that it may be an issue for some.Regarding accuracy: The accuracy of calories burned and heart rate training zones is not only based on HR, but if you know your Vo2 max and anaerobic threshold, you can input these, as well as other data, into your profile via the website to increase the overall accuracy (as seen in my screen shot). Also on the website you can analyze your individual workouts in more detail, and see a handy calendar view of them.Strap sizing – I have a 34” chest circumference. The M-XXL, when loosened to its maximum *un-stretched* length, is 35” long. When stretched, this extends to 45” or so. So if unless your chest is larger than 45”, you should be fine with the M-XXL. Also, the “turquoise” is totally BLUE in color, not aqua or greenish at all. :pPersonal use and opinions -This HR monitor has quickly and completely taken my health and fitness to another level. I seriously regret not having purchased one sooner!I’m a high-intensity kinda person when it comes to exercise. I got hooked on HIIT once I tried it years ago. I never, ever used to bother with endurance stuff (long sessions with LOW heart rates), until I got this HR monitor, and I was advised that I needed to do more endurance work to increase my baseline aerobic fitness. It took a LOT of patience for me to slow down, and actually keep my HR between 130-140. Turns out I had truly never worked out at such low intensity. Despite thinking this low intensity stuff was useless, I stuck with it, and I was flabbergasted at the results. Within just a week of beginning long, steady state daily rows (45m-1hr):-my resting HR dropped by about 5 beats.-my blood pressure dropped to completely normal levels (I’m 35 with an excellent bill of health, but doctors could never understand why I had BP readings that were always high. Apparently, I just needed a little more aerobic fitness!)-and this was totally unexpected: my mental stress levels decreased dramatically. I suddenly had more patience during the day, and even better appetite control. It felt like I was taking a chill pill. And this was just after ONE week. After a month: Aside from feeling a noticeable improvement in quality of life… My pace in rowing (at the same HR) has already improved a lot since I began, which is direct proof of an improving cardiovascular fitness. Further: I recently completed a really tough hike which I hadn’t done in about 7 years. Result: it was a LOT easier this time because my HR drops much more quickly now, so I felt almost *instantly* rested as soon as the elevation would level out. Without the use of a HR monitor to control my workouts in order to properly build this baseline aerobic fitness, NONE of this would have been possible!(And by the way, the Polar Beat app recorded that entire 4 hour hike flawlessly, as my phone was tucked away in my jacket pocket with the screen off and locked, and I never had to fool with it or double-check it).Look, just buy this. Whether you’re experienced or a beginner, don’t ever, ever trust your “perceived exertion.” It is NO substitute for actual data. I wasted SO many years doing that, and robbed myself of a higher level of fitness!! To achieve fitness, you need a combo of high AND low intensity, not just one or the other. And to do this, you need a HR monitor. It’s SO simple: choose your workout and just stay in your zones! :)Hope this helps!!

Unfortunately watches have never been able to read my pulse. I don’t have the strongest pulse in my wrist. The belt compared to watches, is about 99% accurate compared to 80-90%. I have a heart condition so I wanted a more accurate way to track my heart rate for my doctor. It’s pretty amazing, and it syncs up with the polar watch as long as you keep it in “training” mode. I was able to catch what my heart rate does while working a 4 hr cashier shift, and what happens while I sleep, and was finally able to convince a doctor to start me on medication because of this device! I just use the “indoor activity” option whenever I want to track myself while resting, working, or sleeping. The only thing I will say is, it’s not as accurate when in water. It had trouble reading at times when I showered with it. The water gets under the belt and it slides around on the skin. The waterproof feature is really just in case you spill something on it or it’s raining.

I saw plenty of negative reviews regarding difficulties pairing this with tracking apps.I have been running (without a HR monitor) with Nike Run Club for a few years, and this paired up immediately without any issues. My friends and I started training for a 10K using Strava (they are swimmers too so NRC does not work for them) so I switched over to Strava. No issues at all. Works well with the Polar app too. I upgraded from the Xiaomi Mi Band 4, that was horribly inaccurate like most watches. If you’re here, you’re probably already aware that if you want an accurate reading you must get a chest band.I will say the one complaint I have is the “M-XXL” size is a bit of a joke. I am admittedly larger (not fatter) than most at 6’5″ (195cm) and 210lbs but my torso isn’t all that big and yet I have to let the slack out almost all the way on the band to fit my chest (snugly, I might add!) I could literally only increase the band circumference by maybe one inch. I’m luckily just tall, if you’re both big AND tall, or quite big… well, this probably won’t fit you.

Like a lot of athletes, I have some benign tachycardia issues. I’ve used Garmin straps for years, but the moment you have a PVC (premature ventricular contraction), the Garmin pod has no idea of what to do, and starts to mis-report your actual HR. I tried them all, the dual band one was better, but still had issues. Finally, I decided to jump ships and try this Polar model. I’d used Polar straps in the ’90’s, they worked, but were even more glitchy. Not this one. Rock solid results in any condition, super accurate. Having troubles getting reliable readings? Buy this strap.

Basically if your got the Polar app. on your phone, you take this out of the box, put it on and start using it. Really, that easy. It syncs and everything for you you just select the one your wearing from the list and get to sweating. The strap, I was leery of first b/c I thought itd be tugging hair out of my chest, but it doesnt, at all. You barely notice it’s on until you take it off and notice the dirt ring above and below it. Doesnt pinch. Is’nt overly hot to wear and is pretty narrow, so if you wanted to wear it to work, I doubt anyone around you’d even know youre wearing it. The app. was pretty basic but feature filled. Took maybe 5 minutes to setup and doesnt want a bunch of privacy intruding permission. Just access to maps, for the GPS tracking feature which is really cool after a long ride. Made me realize how hard it is to get my HR into the desired zone and how far off eliptical HRMs are.

Polar was the first HR monitor I purchased over 20 years ago when I was racing mountain bikes. They were then considered one the best then and I believe they still are. I wish I would have saved the watch because it would have worked with this one also. My first HR monitor would not work tell it got a little wet which happens naturally when I sweat. I haven’t been getting the strap wet and it has worked just fine. In the old days it was really important to dry the sensor to preserve the battery. Now they have simplified that by being able to detach it from the strap. I am really happy to have a battery meter and to be able to replace the battery when needed. I suppose the battery goes dead faster now that it works with Bluetooth also. The app I used to work out with wants me to go premium to see my heart rate data so I am just using Polar Beat. I did get another app to work(see first two pics) but it doesn’t have auto stop unless I go premium. When I use the Polar Beat app it will disconnect other devices using Bluetooth which is annoying. I am currently using this when biking and walking although it is really hard to get my HR up while walking. I like it when the app uses audio to tell what stage of HR level I am currently working out in.The pictures show two different workouts with two different apps. The first one in Runtastics MountainBike app which is now longer available. The first workout was a 24 mile bike ride on muddy wet paved trails. I was not happy with my average speed but looking at the heart rate data I can tell it was a good workout. The other workout was a stationary bike indoors using the Polar Beat app.I wear a large shirt size (38 in. chest) and the standard m-xxl size is adjusted all the way out and it just barely fits.

I have never left a product review on Amazon in over 10 years but felt compelled to do so with the Polar H10 HRM. In reading the reviews prior to purchase, quite a few people mentioned sizing issues. This gave me pause, as I am a big guy with a 50″ chest. I almost didn’t purchase it for that reason but figured I could always return it if it is too small or too tight. I previously owned the H7 HRM and never had an issue with fit. So I took the plunge, purchased the M-XXL, and upon wearing it for the first time adjusted it to its’ largest size. It was too LOOSE!! I had to stop my workout and tighten it! Either I am missing something, people are receiving the incorrect size, or it is user-error. Much like my H7, there is absolutely NO issue with the strap being big enough. My guess is folks are not adjusting the strap by sliding the black bar (see photo) or maybe wearing it incorrectly. This strap fits fine, at least in my experience. Great product, love the orange. I use it for HIIT workouts and have had no issues thus far.

I own two Polar devices. The P10 and the T31 (or 34 same thing for the purposes of this review. To start with the T31/34 is less expensive only $35 or so dollars, I purchased it about a year ago to use with my Rogue Echo bike (awesome bike) but it doesn’t pair with Polar beat., at the time I didn’t care. What is Polar beat? It’s Polars app and its great, it will sync with Strava and MANY other apps. The P10 can be worn for any exercise and as long as your smart phone is near, it will keep track of your heart rate. I had a heart attack. Quite a shock since I my original major was nutrition (I’m a nurse) and have been VERY active entire life. I wanted a heart monitor I could use in conjunction with perceived effort to, well, monitor my heart. So I purchased the P10, it has been flawless. And it has rendered the other Polar monitor useless. Buy the P10.

I unboxed and put it on the climbed on my Peloton. My Peloton screen found the heart rate monitor immediately and in 10 or 15 seconds I was paired up and had my heart rate open in a little box on the top left of Peloton screen. Was fantastic to have this information for my workout. Total game changer for informed smart exercise. The monitor has 2 snaps that attach it to the strap. They say to moisten the inside surface of the strap to get a good reading. Haha no problem once you start sweating! The monitor snaps on and off and you rinse everything after each use. By storing the monitor unsnapped from strap you save on the battery. A cr2025 battery is included and comes installed. Battery change is simple. Pop open the back and swap it out. Rubber waterproof gasket is visible.Seems really accurate when I compared heart rate on my Galaxy Active 2 watch. I had tried to have Peloton read heart rate off my Galaxy watch but it doesn’t work. My wife’s Apple watch is picked up automatically for heart rate by the Peloton. Seems Peloton and Apple sync really well together. But no worries. I did a second Peloton workout now with my Polar H10 and once I sat on bike and tapped my profile on screen I was connected for heart rate. Maybe it’s because I am a physician but I just love keeping an eye on the little heart rate box and watching fluctuate with my output. Then after the workout the Polar 10 heart rate is part of the cycling workout summary on the Peloton screen or on any device in the Peloton App that also includes output, cadence, resistance and speed.I bought this to use with Peloton and I am super happy with this product. It is accurate and worked right out of the box. Set up with Peloton was virtually instantaneous. So far my Polar H10 hasn’t missed a beat!

I LOVE this song heart rate monitor. I recently had heart surgery and am back in the gym. This monitor allows me to use any of the equipment in the gym and it will allow me to monitor my heart rate. So, if I’m taking a spin class, working out on the treadmill, stationary bicycle or elliptical trainer they ALL syncs with this monitor. During cardiac rehab I often check against my own monitor and it is usually 100% accurate!
