Our family really loves this TV. My wife immediately noticed color and black level improvement over our previous displays (two Sony TVs & a Samsung). Definitely a big step up in quality & enjoyment for our home theater.PROS: MOTION: I really like the motion handling of this display. I notice more detail and clearer images during fast motion scenes (re-watched Bumblebee & Aquaman on 4K disk and was blown away by how much detail was missed compared to the old TV). Almost gets the balance between smoothness and ‘no soap opera effect’ perfect. PICTURE: Color is vibrant with nice saturation, black levels are great, shadow detail is good, the black bars on letterbox movies look great, and the Dolby Vision HDR highlights are really bright (re-watched The Mandalorian: Prisoner episode and was surprised at the brightness of the strobe lights and laser fire on board the prisoner ship). SPEAKERS: The TV’s built in speakers sound great (after a few adjustments of the various settings). There are simulated surround settings, 7 band EQ slider adjustments, and a Dialog Enhancer setting that acually makes a difference. AUDIO: (see also cons below) My wife commented how the audio sounded better on our home theater set up. The Dolby Digital Plus output (over HDMI 3 ARC) sounds more detailed on our Sony STR-DN1080 Receiver compared to the Dolby Digital PCM output from our previous 2015 Sony TV. APPS: The apps launch quickly, menus are responsive, streams start fast, and 4K upscaling of 1080P content looks great too. I love the Apple TV box, but this TV almost negates the need for it with its very good app performance. REMOTE: the remote feels good, thin and slim in the hand with nice tactile button pushes, textured plastic back side, brushed finish plastic front side. Note: no backlight. SCREEN: Zero dead/stuck pixels on my panelCONS: AUDIO: A squeak noise happens whenever tapping the pause/stop/back buttons during playback of the internal TV Netflix App (Atmos content) over my Sony Receiver/Klipsch speakers (doesn’t happen on the TV’s built in speakers). Turning OFF ‘Pass Through Mode’ in the TV’s sound menu seems to have stopped the squeak glitch. SCREEN: Slight darkening of the corners of screen on while displaying a light solid color (common with VA panels), but this is unnoticeable during actual TV viewing. Not a big deal at all to me, but worth mentioning.NOTES (as of Firmware v6.0132 dated June 2, 2020): *Movies Anywhere App: supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos *Disney+ App: supports Dolby Vision, doesn’t support Dolby Atmos *YouTube App: supports 4K HDR *Amazon App: supports 4K HDR & Dolby Atmos, no Dolby Vision. A few problems I noticed are that the app is slow to load to the home screen, and there is a weird frame rate skip that can be distracting to some on certain selections. *Netflix App: supports Dolby Vision and Dolby Atmos. The ‘Netflix calibrated picture mode’ looks too dull in my opinion. It auto enables the light sensor (too aggressively), and none of the settings can be changed within this mode. *my TV is on a wired 300 Mbps internet connection (for streaming stablility/quality/speed) *The built in Apps have a unique picture settings memory separate from each of the HDMI input settings *Dolby Vision picture settings have separate picture settings memory from non-DV sources unique to each input *I prefer to use ‘Dolby Vision Bright’ picture setting on all DV supported media, looks great *The Sanus VLT6 wall mount for the 85-inch tv size is awesome: easy to move around for access to ports & lots of adjustments for changing the position/leveling *Belkin Ultra High-Speed HDMI cables and Monoprice Ultra High-Speed HDMI cables are used in my setup (at least perhaps until ‘Certified Ultra High Speed’ cables hit the market) *After allowing permissions in the Google Home app, Google voice commands can be spoken into the remote to allow control of Nest Thermostat temperature settings. Also, Philips Hue Lights can be turned on/off/dimmed/brightened in your different zones. *The NEST tv app allows viewing of a NEST doorbell camera on the TV screen (as long as your NEST account wasn’t migrated to your Google account). *The remote is IR out of the box, but BlueTooth mode can be activated in: Settings > Remotes & Accesories > Remote Control > Connect Via BlueTooth > Connect a new remote > then follow the onscreen directions. To switch back to IR mode, just repeat the steps again stopping at the [Connect a new Remote]. It seems only one remote can be connected via BlueTooth at a time, thereby setting it back to IR mode. Remote commands feel more responsive in BlueTooth mode, plus you don’t need to point it at the TV. *Probably because the eARC firmware is glitched or not fully implemented yet (edit: I read responses from Sony reps in the Amazon Q&A section and eARC support will be added as a future firmware update, but I am leaving this information to help others in case they have a similar problem), I encountered the following issue. My Panasonic 4K Disk Player (DP-UB820) would not operate correctly when connected directly to one of the TV’s HDMI ports (with Sony Receiver then connected to HDMI 3 ARC). Sound would stop on Sony Receiver (movie picture still playing, but with zero audio) after using stop/pause/search functions. Sometimes an error would flash briefly on screen, usually not at all, to “please use a compatible HDCP 2.2 device on current input” and then the TV would freeze up, go blank and become unresponsive followed by a screen of black and white horizontal lines. Next, the TV would turn off and become unresponsive to remote power button commands. After about 3 minutes or so the TV would reboot showing the SONY logo, the colored Google circles, the Android logo, then finally the home screen again. Note: Audio signals sent out from the TV through ARC (when it worked) was NOT in Dolby Atmos True-HD (lossless) format, but only as Dolby Atmos Dolby Digital Plus. FIX: Only after connecting the Panasonic Player directly to the Sony Receiver, then the Sony Receiver to the TV’s HDMI 3(ARC) did disk movies finally work with no audio problems or TV resets. Dolby Atmos True-HD (lossless) audio worked great with no stop/pause/search glitches.CONCLUSION: We are very happy with this purchase. This a great TV for the price and I feel it is worth every dollar spent. Netflix and Movie viewing are awesome and I am looking forward to PlayStation 5 gaming on this display with the future HDMI 2.1 features (4k120, ALLM, VRR, eARC).These 2.1 features will be added to HDMI ports 3&4 *according to Amazon Q&A section Sony Reps. RTings.com should have a review up soon with a ton of great information for those interested.

This is a follow-up. I now love the tv. After updates and reconfigured items the tv is awesome. Picture quality is excellent and internet connection works perfectly. I’m happy with the tv.

First, I want to say that I am not an audiophile. I have done research on what features I was looking for though. I am your average consumer and have not set any advanced picture or sound settings.Physical setupThe feet for the TV are at both ends of the TV and was too wide for the stand that I have. I bought a separate center stand that would support the 65-inch display (FITUEYES Universal TV Stand Base). That worked perfectly. Didn’t realize how big the 85in would be, but we like it.OS – Android TVI rated this 5 stars but really wanted to give it 4.5. The ONLY thing I have an issue with is partially my fault and lack of research. I have AT&T TV NOW as my online TV service. Android TV does NOT support this app. I have read that you can sideload it multiple ways, but I figure that it is time for a change anyway. There are other options out there for live TV and I will look into those. The rest of the user interface is good. This is the first time I have used Android TV though I have always used an Android based phone. The apps are laid out well and very responsive. The Google Assistant works well, but I find that Alexa is better on Amazon Fire TV. It is a nice feature for this TV to be Alexa-enabled. It can be used to turn on the TV and more but requires a higher power consumption since it must remain in a standby state. There a plenty of settings to go through and sometimes get lost. This is day 3 for me and am getting used to the navigation.SoundI have not tested the sound using the TV speakers. I bought a Sony HT-X9000F Soundbar with Wireless Subwoofer system (open-box) to utilize the eARC features of the TV. Again, I am not an audiophile, but I wanted great sound to compliment my viewing and I believe this has met my expectations. As soon as i plugged my 48Gbps HDMI cable to the HDMI port 3 on the TV, it was instantly recognized and prompted me to set it up.PictureI’m no expert on configuring the picture, but there are a few preset picture settings that can be used. I particularly interested in the Netflix picture mode where the settings are adjusted to fit the intended settings that the filmmakers wanted. I don’t like it as it made everything dark, but I don’t know if anything else needs to be done to make it look better. My favorite setting is Vivid as it brings out the bright colors. I watched Dolittle (2020) 4K using Google Play Movies. I enjoyed the visuals of this movie. The colors do pop, fast motion was very clear, and the dark scenes were just right for me. The TV handles reflections very well and it doesn’t spread over the rest of the screen. The viewing angles are OK. I found it annoying to watch from the side, but I guess I’m not used to it since we repositioned everything in the living room for this TV.

My first 4K Sony TV. Sony’s cost more. Now I know why. This 65 inch x900H replaced my 55 inch Hisense H9F I bought last year. I loved my Hisense, however the x900H is better. I believe the x1 chip makes a huge difference. Android TV is snappier, upscaling is better…. I just love this TV! Movies and TV is fantastic on this TV. Playing my Xbox one s is fantastic as well. Buy it!!!

I was looking at the x950h based on the strong performance of the x950G (2019 model) and also at the x800h. I was replacing a 5 year old Samsung 4k that had a backlight issue and was too costly to repair.Although this is literally a brand new to the market, I decided that possibly going middle-of-the-road with the x900h was probably a good idea (mostly price-wise) and the step up from the x800h to local dimming was something I wanted. Was I right!I worked in the TV industry for over 20 years, so I got pretty obsessed with picture quality and this TV does not let me down. Deep blacks, vivid colors. Not OLED, but really good. Overall strong picture quality right out of the box before I even began playing with the settings. Also good viewing angles probably at 45 deg of center on each side from about 10 feet away. Picture contrast and colors were maintained at least at these angles.I’ve mounted the TV on a 1″ deep wall-mount, so it’s almost flush to the wall. With the exception of the power cord (which is a 90 Degree Figure 8 cable) all the inputs/outputs are on the left side. The Power cord is unfortunately on the right side in a recessed area, but for wall mounting it makes it a little tricky to get the plug in unless you have 2 people and someone does it before you place it on the mount. All the other connections can easily be made once mounted.Couple of interesting features -ATSC 3.0 tuner – will future proof you for 4k OTA signals and interactive content when available (larger markets will begin testing before end of 2020).HDMI 2.1 support – really suggest you replace any legacy HDMI cables you may have with 48Gbps capable cables. My apple TV box picked up on the new TV having Dolby Vision support and tried to test for it (which requires 48Gbps), but it said my cable was “not stable” and dropped me back to 4k SDR. It’s an older, high quality, 18Gbps certified cable, but it obviously was not built for the needed tolerances. New HDMI cables are now on order, but consider that if you’re wall mounting and will have limited access to re-work cabling after install.Android TV is good, i’ve configured it with my complement of OTT applications (youtube TV, Disney+, HBOMax, Prime, Netflix etc.) and works great. I personally prefer (as does the wife for consistency around the house) to use Apple TV’s as my interface on all the home TV’s. Fortunately, the TV does not force you into an Android experience – if you turn the TV on with the HDMI for your AppleTV as the selected input , you go straight into the external box’s interface and don’t have to fight your way out of Android TV first. If anything lets it down, the lack of a good paper manual during unboxing is annoying. Also, the port labeling is not readable easily once mounted on the wall – i had to guess which one was HDMI1 for example (and of course, I got it wrong). The supplied quick-start guide does not show the ports in a way that tells you a layout. In summary, strong TV. Good forward thinking features for you to grow into. I purchased the 55″ for a smaller living room area of the house, but if the wife lets me, an 85″ will end up in our media room before the year is out…. ;-)Recommend this TV. No reservations so far.

There are plenty of places you can go online to get the detailed specs on this screen once it has been professionally reviewed. I’ll give you impressions from my couch. I selected the X900H for the same reason many of you will – I wanted a great set today that will be ready for PS5 in the near future. All I can comment on is how good the set is today, one week after its release. In a word: fantastic.I am a post-production professional. I’ve seen video look its absolute best in the same rooms and on the same displays as the guys who finish projects before they go out into the wild. Having experience with a professionally calibrated grading monitor, when it comes to selecting gear for my own home I’m very particular about what I choose and do patient research with the goal of coming as close as possible to that level of performance without spending a fortune. When I calibrate my personal TVs, I aim for accuracy. My living room is light controlled. I use test patterns to set the black level, the white level, and the color saturation using those old school blue THX glasses. Yeah, I’m that guy. I do it all by eye, I haven’t paid to have someone come out with a Colorimeter and CALMAN and get this thing science-lab perfect, okay? On the weekends I’m a regular joe with a remote control and snacks that wants to watch some TV and wants it to look “correct”. Having said all of that – I’m blown away by this TV’s performance. I’ve got it calibrated to my liking and this thing makes content look like it’s coming right out of the studio. I feel like my living room is my edit bay and this is the reference monitor.Black levels are nearly-perfect and completely uniform. Colors are very natural. I’ll save space by just saying – it lives up to Sony’s reputation for image quality. I’ve watched blu-rays in SDR, Ultra HD blu-rays in HDR10, Netflix in Dolby Vision, Disney Plus in HDR10, PS4 games in SDR and HDR, even DVDs. They all look great. No funky colors. No weird artifacts. No need for extra words.Read any enthusiast forum about TVs and you’ll hear about blooming. I’ve seen it bloom once or twice during PS4Pro gaming sessions on loading screens. Never during HDR movies or normal content. You a videophile? You can tweak this TV to your heart’s content. Want to change something about the picture? There’s a slider for that.I was replacing a Sony I’ve owned since 2008, which still looks great today, I only wanted a larger screen and wanted to go 4K. I’m very pleased with the X900H’s performance. Same goes for the build quality. The design is elegant and looks great in the room. Nothing feels cheap. The packaging was safe, secure, and not wasteful. The experience with Amazon was 5 star. Placed order on a Monday, greeted the UPS man on Thursday. If I have any regrets at all about the purchase – I kinda wish I’d gotten the biggest one they make even though I don’t have the space for it.

New for 2020, you should know the Reddit forums are misleading on the specs. This model does have “object remaster.” Many forums and posts are saying it does not. The product page at Sony says it does, and the option is available in your picture presets. The reason this is important, is that some are saying you should upgrade to the 950H instead because of this omission. There is no omission, and coming from a standard 4K set, I can attest to Sony’s upscaling being the best there is. If you are tired of banding and blotches in your upscaled low bit rate content, do not spend more money on a higher end set. This one will deliver.Speaking of the presets, they adjust the X1 chip’s feature set and the standard adjustments as well. Choosing Cinema gets you different upscaling and motion setting than choosing Standard. The same for the HDR presets of Dolby Vision Bright and Dark. Turning on Netflix Calibrated mode does additional adjustments. Presets become available depending on the content you stream. So Vivid, Standard, and Cinema are all you have for OTA and low bit rate streaming.Mrs. Maizel on Amazon looks Technicolor in HDR. I re-watched Bright on Netflix to see the difference 4K HDR would make compared to HD. Dolby Vision Bright was retina searing, Dolby Vision Dark was better, Netflix Calibrated was amazing. Flashlights and headlights were retina jarring against the dark rooms, and nighttime “inkyness” of the movie. In upscaled HD on my old 4K TV, faces were lost in shadow and I missed half the room details from banding and black crush. On this set, it was like being at the theater.Speaking of at the theater, Star Wars VII from Disney+ was perfect with the Dolby Vision Dark preset. I took some pictures, but fear to post them (because Disney). The “black bars” (letterboxing) remained black throughout the movie, no blooming. Star fields were black, but not as black as the letter box bars. Contrast was perfect. There are two scenes that stood out. One at the beginning where Daisy repels into a crashed ship. The shadow and light detail here blew me away. The other was near the end, as ships approach Starkiller base. The pan from space to planet was perfect, including the glow of the local star above the planet.FYI. The guide will integrate Xumo and Pluto TV channels so you can mix those with your OTA TV. You have four Favorite groups that you can name, and with over 300 free channels now in my guide I will have to use all four to keep things straight. This is my fourth Sony in 40 years. The first was a 24″ CRT that doubled as computer monitor until it turned green. The second was 35″ Trinitron that weighed more than a Prius and died a horrible red death. The third was a 37″ XBR LCD HDTV that I bought in 2000. Still a great TV for 1080p content. I am sorry I bought outside the brand with my last 4K TV purchase. It won’t happen again.

Was initially stuck between a LG b9 or a Samsung 80t. Decided against the LG because I’m not spending money on something that might burn-in, it’s just a personal preference and I’d rather give the TV to family than be forced to trash/upgrade sooner. So the Samsung, upon further inspection, was in some ways a downgrade than the prior year’s model which is disappointing-also lacking some other features after i did a ton of researching on rtings and reddit. Went to Costco to stock up on food and saw this sony TV next to a c9 & 80t and couldnt really tell the difference between the 3 looking at the picture. Also, in my opinion the Sony looked the best in terms of frame quality/sleekness–the samsung looks so plasticy. Then i compared it to the 950h and honestly didn’t see a big difference or reason to spend 200 more. Anyway, after more research I took a chance& settled on this 55′, it arrived in 1 day (NYC) without issue or damage, ez setup and no dead pixels!! Saved like hundreds not getting the other options. Phew!

Today is opposite day! So, the X900H is a great tv. It didn’t get a pink screen and fail in just 24hrs of use. It doesn’t have banding because sony ripped out the smooth gradation feature from the last model. It is an upgrade over the X900F. It dosen’t have an awful glare to the screen because it has a cheap matte finish. It doesn’t force Google’s term of service, or you can’t use the tv you just paid over a grand for. It isn’t a downgrade in any way. It’s the best tv since sliced bread, because every single mainstream blogger says so! They would never lie to any of Us, to collect affiliate marketing revenue. The sony x900h is literally perfect. A 5 star experience you just cant beat. You couldn’t do better if you tried. Best tv you will ever own. Totally holds up against older sony tvs like the X900E, by a very substantial margin. You should not look up Quantum tv on YouTube, and see a more extensive breakdown. You should simply know that this is the best tv ever made, because thats what all the reviews say. And remember reviews are always honest. No one ever ignores downgrades for personal gain. Best tv ever. Everything is awsome. Oh how I love opposite day.Goodluck folks.- Q
