This TV is a beautiful device, worthy of the cost. We purchased this as a replacement for our 2009 50 inch Panasonic plasma. It’s a fine successor to what was a fantastic tv for many years. Finally a tv that offers the quality of a plasma without the risk of burn in (like OLED). That is once the second one arrived two days later. The first one sent to us had clearly been run into by a forklift in the bottom left corner. Upon removal from the box the device was found shattered and completely ruined. Amazon was great about getting a replacement to use less then 48 hours later though, so that’s something. The Sony x950h is a relatively simple upgrade over the 2019 g model, one of the two biggest differences being in its audio quality. Now if you have a great sound system already you might be able to save a few bucks and go with last years addition. From my research the two are nearly identical in overall image quality. In my case we decided on the h precisely because we don’t have room for a decent surround sound setup. In fact I’d say it’s audio quality is equal to a good sound bar and should be more then enough for most folks. The picture quality is great with one small draw back (I say draw back but it’s more like a trade off). The viewing angle on this TV is fantastic, much better than the 2019 model. But to achieve this and it’s rather dark blacks, they had to cut down on the number of zones for the full array LED lighting. As a result you may notice a slight bloom effect around things like credits and subtitles, especially when viewing in a very dark room. You could simply turn this feature off, but you will greatly sacrifice the darkness of your blacks as a result. I only notice it very infrequently, so it’s not a deal breaker for me.The built in smart tv software is fine for anyone without a dedicated media device. We are only using it for YouTube at this point, everything else is viewed on an Apple TV 4K. Can’t wait for Apple to make their device fully compatible with the YouTube app, but until then, the Android Tv will suffice. Setting options are easily accessible and paired well with a cheap feeling but very capable remote.A great alternative for OLED (no thanks, don’t need burn in problems) at a very reasonable price. Giving it 5 stars over all and very satisfied.*edit – Apple has finally update the Apple TV 4K. We are no longer using any of the built in Android TV apps. A few months in and I have no complaints at all, the points in my original review still stand on solid ground.

We love everything about this new 4k Smart TV. Picture is beautiful, and colors are vibrant…The smart TV apps and functions all work perfectly. At 49″ not huge, but a perfect size for our 1200 ft home. i would definitely recommend the new Sony 950H!

First off, despite the ability to make it that way, this is not going to be an overly technical review, I know a lot of people just want to know if this TV is worth the money. While there’s no short answer to that, hopefully this review will help. This TV is an upgrade from a Sony 55″ 950G.Other TVs I considered: Samsung Q90 and TCL 8 Series. I passed on both of them mainly because of many reviews saying that both had varying degrees of uniformity issues. I had no desire to play “panel lottery”.Viewing Habits: Like a lot of people, I’m a cable cutter, so nearly all of my viewing is either by streaming or hard copy (Blu-ray, DVD) from a Sony UP-X800MkII 4K player. Although seldom used, basic (480) cable is attached for occasionally viewing local news, but this input is not reviewed here due to limited experience with it and the generally poor quality of the signal.Viewing Area: Screen is roughly eight feet from the main seating area. Daytime viewing is quite bright, while nightime viewing is generally fairly dark outside of low ambient lighting.Picture Quality: The quality of the picture on this set is equal to, and often better than, the 950G it replaced. Colors are very good out of the box, and get better with some minor adjustments to the settings. I will say upfront that, as on the 950G, Netflix Calibrated Mode is generally a waste of time, leaving the picture somewhat dull and lifeless. All non Dolby Vision content was set up using the Custom picture setting – both Dolby Vision and Custom required very little messing with picture settings to get them to my liking. The brightness of the set really lends itself to High Dynamic Range (HDR) content in general, and specifically with Dolby Vision content. Disney+, Netflix and Amazon HD and UHD content look outstanding, and even with the compression often present on Netflix content, Dolby Vision encoded content looks great, as seen in the picture from Our Planet. Viewing content from the 4K player, things get even better – since I have a good size library of DVDs, I started there. While some movies were limited somewhat by a questionable conversion to digital to begin with, all were upscaled very well. A lot of it will naturally depend on how much effort went into the digitizing of the film in question, but the TV itself does an awesome job with the better quality movies. I generally leave any signal processing off, but turning on Digital Noise Reduction on did improve the picture quality on poorer quality DVD transfers. Blu-ray movies are handled even better of course, and films like Pirates of the Caribbean 3, October Sky and Dances with Wolves really pop on the screen. 4K/UHD movies look nothing short of outstanding – Midway (2009), Apollo 13, Avengers Endgame and Batman (1989) all look outstanding, with the dark purple jackets of Joker’s henchmen not getting lost at all on the screen as it does on many lesser quality TVs. The Local Dimming feature is definitely improved over the 950G. The starfield on Apollo 13 offer was crushed if you set Local Dimming to High, whereas the 950H does not suffer from this problem. The 950H has Sony’s wide angle viewing on all but the 49″ model, and it’s a welcome improvement. You’re still not going to get the wide viewing performance of an OLED, but it’s helpful up to about 30° off center viewing.Audio: Sony has touted the 950H as having greatly improved sound over previous models, and overall, I’d have to agree. Does it outperform a decent soundbar? No. It does, however, give a much wider soundstage than most flat screens and for that, I give them a B for effort. While the sound lacks bottom end punch, it does offer one the alternative of late night viewing without disturbing others in the household, or, if you’re like me, other tenants.Grey Uniformity: Every LED TV out there will have some form of grey uniformity (dirty screen effect or DSE) problems, ranging from very bad, to barely noticeable, the 950H falls into the latter category. The DSE it does have is some minor vignetting in the extremes of each corner that I’ve yet to notice in real world viewing.User Interface/Operating System: As with the 950G, the 950H uses the Android UI. I’d have to guess that there was a hardware change from the G series to the H series, as the H seems a little snappier in response and load times. The Android UI, overall, is a pleasant experience, and offers most streaming apps that the average user will want. It doesn’t offer quite the plethora of apps that Roku does, but overall, that’s not a downside to me.Remote Control: Not much to say here other than that the remote is well laid out and your fingers quickly learn where to land to execute the desired function. Definitely an improvement over past Sony offerings. That said, it is a bit large and the button count could definitely be pared down.Build Quality: The easiest thing to say here is, ‘It’s a Sony”. You aren’t going to find quite the quality you’ll find in Sony’s Master Series, but the dark metal panel surround is very thin and the construction is solid. From the front, the first words that come to mind are “simple yet elegant”. The sticking point for me is the legs. While they look nice enough, the cable management is nearly non existent when compared to the 950G. Add to this that mine came with some screw holes that were not tapped all the way through. While this seems like a minor complaint, when you consider the weight these legs are responsible for, not to mention the price point of the TV, there should have been some more thought given to the design. Conclusion: Unless you happen across a Sony or LG OLED at a great price, this TV is probably what you’re looking for, the only exception would be if your priority is next gen gaming since the 950H, unlike its 900H sibling, does not offer HDMI 2.1 or VRR. For those who are primarily movie lovers (both hard copy and streaming), the 950H is clearly the better choice.Pros+ Brightness to handle HDR content+ Great color, even out of the box+ Amazing upscaling+ Includes Dolby Vision+ Decent soundstage+Improved viewing angles over most other VA type panelsCons- Limited app choices when compared to Roku UI- Stand is fussy to assemble- Poor cable management- No HDMI 2.1

I’m 66y/o male who grew up in the south. We got only 2 channels on our B/W tv …Monroe La & Texarkana Tx. The picture quality we thought was great most of the time. But looking at this x950 picture, I realize how bad the old tv’s were. One guy said the new tv was like looking out the window. Well, I’ve never saw the colors & all so beautiful as they are on this Sony. The sound is remarkably superior to any before it. I purchased the Sony to replace a 55” Mitsubishi rear projection tv…so I’m use to the large screens. The movements on the screen are so fluid-like. The quality is so good that you can actually see blemishes in the paint, wallpaper, stitching in the clothes. My tv’s run 24/7 unless there’s an power outage. I’m disabled from cancer & COPD so the tv is my link to the world…..it’s never turned off…so time will be the real test here. It’s very simple to operate, setup was a snap of the fingers. So outside of the price, it’s the best of the best but, you get what you pay for. Use your credit points on your CC, awards points & everything else you can use to work the final total down to where you can get it because you will not regret it. The X950H 2020 model is best tv I’ve watched….ever. Get this tv & you’ll not always be looking back wishing you’d spent another $200-$300 & got the cream. One problem is everyone wants to continually talk about the great sound & picture….do comparisons vs their tv & you have a difficult time watching your tv. Can’t hear/see the game because of everyone talking about how great your tv is….or that one guy who’s always there who can find fault in whatever is going on.Last word…..buy this tv, you’ll be glad you did.

After three attempts (March through September !), we finally received an undamaged & factory packed SONY XBR-950H. It is everything we hoped for and we love the set.Pros:The Picture Quality is only limited by the Quality of the Source: 4K in, 4K out.Perfect blacks & screen changesDazzling colors;Bright, sharp imagery and consistent performance;Much improved sound (no sound bar is needed;Function speed is quick, a needed improvement; Also needed: a much improved remote with DVD & Netflix motion (stop, forward, reverse, pause, etc.) controls.Cons:No Britbox despite the advertising. You have to buy Prime to get BBC or Britbox (rip off)No HDMI 2.x and No HDR 2.1 though what it does do, it does well.Safe shipping is the luck of the draw. Expect the unexpected. Use AMAZONS bulk shipping people to help.UPS Returns take much work & persistence to get done. We spent 4 weeks each return before we could reorder. The remote affects ANY OTHER Sony device you have in the area. Point with caution. The manual is terse & unhelpful like any modern manual.Bottom line: Worth every penny & the imagery is superb. See uploaded photos.

Clarity is incredible and it integrates perfectly with my PS4 Pro. Menus are fast and apps load quickly. The remote control worked with my PS4 Pro automatically and the display auto sensed when other things were plugged in to HDMI.Lightweight and easy to set up. Menus are fairly intuitive to navigate and customize. My PS4 fits underneath the display and has room for other things too. I have an NES & SNES classic under there as well. Design is very classy and minimal. The stand was easy to install, everything was up and running within minutes.Apple Airplay works well. I streamed a movie from my iPhone (Apple TV+) in 4K and it was smooth, no buffering, and in HDR.Upscaling is good. I watched an older movie on blu ray in addition to the movie made in 4K and it still looked great! Better than ever, actually.Bluetooth is very nice. Used my Bose noise cancelling headphones and it was like being at a movie theater and I didn’t even worry about bothering the neighbors watching late or worry about tripping over wires in the dark.Amazon delivery was first class. Free prime delivery and it came in one day!! DURING LOCKDOWN!!! Way to go, Amazon!! Thank you! The Amazon app gave me live updates when it would arrive and the delivery guy was nice.Excellent shopping experience.

With having a quality pre-4k Sony TV, I had been holding out on going to 4k for a Sony at this price level. This TV hits the marks! Find quality 4k (great camera, little compression) and the picture is awesome. (Just HD is not good enough to watch.)I was surprised that this Sony just has digital audio out, so my older Denon receiver won’t hook up. (I’ve ordered a digital audio to RCA converter so I’ll see how that works out… might be time to upgrade my still quality Denon to a new one for digital audio input?)As far as the TV features, I have only hooked it up to a 4k AppleTV as I won’t use Google. I have a TiVo for some live TV.I did also buy this to Airstream photos from my MacBook, and finally I can see my beautiful pictures on this awesome display. What a treat!

It took me about a week of playing with settings, but with a SONY, you know the TV is capable of the image you’re looking for, you just need to spend some time. Reading reviews before buying, I was worried about blooming and grayish black levels…I’m not having those issues. I honestly think the image is more realistic than OLED. Setup was easy, I have my video library on a USB drive plugged into my router. It automatically setup an input for the drive, it works great with Google assistant. I have it hooked up to a 7.1 system (STR-DN1080) so I can’t really comment on the TV’s sound. Overall I’m happy with the TV.

I realize that not everyone will agree with my review of this incredible television. So I will start with this. I’ve been into home theatre since 1990 and the days of Laserdisc. I’ve seen the incredible changes in technology since then and it is amazing at how far it has come and it’s literally changing almost daily? Now for my take on this stunningly gorgeous TV. I took the last several months trying to decide on what brand, options per brand etc and that list is long. I completely agree with other’s who have purchased this product and I will tell you truthfully, right out of the box this thing has one incredible picture, set up is a breeze, and to satisfy my very discerning taste, I literally have NOT adjusted any of the picture settings, including color, hue, tint, sharpness, NOTHING! The only setting I did change was from a standard image to cinema and it works quite good for just about anything you throw at it. I even used a THX certified disc with the THX OPTIMIZER, thinking that I would make the image better than it already is? I’ve NEVER seen a television that needed zero adjustments?? The aluminum bezel is so slim, it looks like all you see is the image and none of the TV. Kudos Sony! Moving through the various inputs, settings, Android apps, etc is blazing fast!! NO JOKING AROUND! Save yourself the headache and just buy this GORGEOUS TELEVISION!! YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!! And lastly, it has the identical Sony X1 Ultimate quad core processor as their $59k Z9G Master Series display. Enough said. Prepare to be happy, ESPECIALLY when you watch your first 4K Blu-ray disc or streaming movie! Make yourself some popcorn, sit back and prepare to be blown away!!!!

1996 – Sony Trinitron KV-27S20 (27″, CRT) first TV I ever bought2007 – Sony Bravia KDL-40V2500 (40″, CFL LCD)2020 – Vizio M437-G0 (43″, 4k HDR) R.I.P.2020 – Sony Bravia X950HThis year I decided to make the jump to 4k HDR. The picture quality on even the cheapest 4K HDR televisions is so much better than my old CFL LCD panel that I decided to go with a 43″ Vizio M quantum (M437-G0). I was satisfied with it for the price, but after spending some time with it I began to understand the importance of brightness, color accuracy, and local dimming algorithms, not to mention motion. I’m not at all interested in keeping up with the Jonses, so despite its shortcomings I was willing to live with the Vizio until it was totally obsolete (as I had done with my two televisions prior).Unfortunately my Vizio was broken in a freak accident involving a projectile fountain pen (don’t ask), which provided me an opportunity to correct my mistake and buy Sony. I didn’t buy the X950H due to blind brand loyalty, but rather because it’s clearly the best 49″ LCD available. I considered a 48″ OLED from LG, and while the OLED picture is noticeably better in terms of black level and uniformity, when watching content (rather than static test patterns) the difference is nowhere near as major as the difference between the X950H and a budget set. In other words, I feel the X950H is worth the premium over a cheap set for anybody, while OLED is worth the premium depending on certain factors.TL;DR: The X950H has amazing picture quality. In the store everything looks same-y, so it’s easy to be allured by unbelievably cheap sets. Don’t make the same mistake I did, just buy the Sony.By the way, my Sony TVs from 1996 and 2007 are still working as good as new. My 1996 Trinitron is even back in service as part of a retro gaming rig. Tubular, dude!
