After a couple of decades of buying laptop mats, first without fans and later with fans, this is it!! I bought it 3.5 years ago and it has worked beautifully. I never hear the fans; every once in awhile, I pick up my computer to feel the air flowing so I know that it’s still working. It is fantastic! The air holes go face up. It hold my 17″ laptop still without any problem. No noise or smells. After 3 1/2 years, the cord began to break by the USB plug, so I bought a new one. Breaking at that point is easy to notice; it’s also my bad. I keep my laptop too close to stuff that bends the cord too much.Think of this like buying a cover for your phone. Eventually you WILL drop your phone and that cover protects your phone from damage. Eventually, your laptop WILL overheat and this product reduces the overheating by adding air flow under your laptop. Laptops used on soft surfaces are particularly susceptible to overheating

I bought this item 6 years ago, and was looking to buy a second one for my roommate. As we are now in Corona times and are both working from home. This item has been a life saver recently as I have not been this dependent on my laptop since college. My trusty laptop cooler has survived through my all nighters, new jobs, new computer, and 5 movies. While I can’t say for sure that it helped my computer last longer, it does keep my computer noticeably cooler to the touch. While I am not a gamer, I do graphic design and am often rendering large Photoshop and InDesign files.I think the best part about this product is that you can use it on your lap comfortably. The neoprene cover on the bottom side is relatively comfortable, but more importantly there is no fan sticking out like in other models. Back when I bought this, I was a poor art student and literally had no couch or desk to work at, and so did 80% of my work sitting on the floor. This was the best $24 I ever spent to make my life that much easier. My old college laptop died two years ago (2011 MacBook Pro), but I bought a new MacBook Air about 6 months ago. I had to buy a new USB-c converter to use it with my new laptop, and it can be a little noisy (although quieter than my computer’s fans when they get going). It is a little annoying that I had to get a special USB-c converter to use it now. Also, I noticed that the price for this has gone up, and while I do love this item I’m not sure I would pay more than $30, as it is not exactly the most well made item.

Right when the Covid-19 quarantine hit the fan on my work laptop failed. IT cannot get me a new laptop at this time so I bought this cooler to try to keep my laptop alive and working until things get back to normal. It’s working great. Its almost silent and its keeping things cool, even with no internal fan on the laptop. I have an infrared thermometer and have confirmed that this thing is keeping my laptop at normal operating temp and a full 25° cooler than it was getting without the internal fan working and no external cooler.I’ve seen some comments in the reviews about this having a “tiny“ fan and that it does not blow very hard. True, but it does not take very much air movement to cool a laptop – we’re not dealing with a V-8 engine here. I can’t confirm whether this would work for a full on gaming laptop being pushed to its limits but for a Dell latitude business laptop doing normal business activities, it has no trouble keeping it cool for 8+ straight hours every day.

(Style is the lightweight portable chill mat)Love these, I bought one of my boyfriend’s gaming laptop first (MSI, I think 17″) and it balances on it nicely, with a little overhang. I decided to get one for myself as I’m always trying to balance the laptop and change positions while studying. Overall the fan is very quiet, I did notice that my bf’s heavier laptop seems to add enough pressure so that the fan is a little quieter with his vs mine. You could probably fit in a backpack if you wanted to, it’s about the size of a binder.

I had to replace my 9 y/o laptop recently and bought a higher end, customized one with a high performance processor, game-ready graphic card, large ram memory block and 2 large high speed hard drives….so, basically a gaming laptop which means it runs hotter than most ‘plebeian’ laptops… I didn’t really need to worry because such laptops only start to run hot if one starts running a memory intensive game on it, I wanted to get a laptop cooler base for mine regardless…i’m very happy with this ‘targus lap chill mat’ purchase…it’s very light and I don’t even ever turn its cooling fans on….the perfect angle makes using my laptop a pleasure while lying in bed and the fact that it’s raised with plenty of channels/surface allowing the air to circulate freely, keep my laptop quiet and supercool by itself…it also protects my laptop from sucking in lint, etc, from my bed through its bottom cooling ports/vents…. great buy….

Works as good if not better than I expected. One thing to remember, though. I made a mistake when using it. I had it plugged into my laptop and closed the laptop to go out to dinner. Unfortunately, the plug in the wall was loose and I didn’t notice it. The laptop went into “sleep” mode with the lid closed and the chill mat continued to pull power off the battery. The battery went dead, of course, and when that happens while the computer is in “sleep” mode it causes problems in the system! Fortunately, I went to my computer guy and he saved the day and explained the problem to me. From now on, I won’t leave the mat plugged in when in sleep mode!

I’ve had this thing for nearly 10 years! I didn’t even realize that I purchased this from Amazon, that’s how long ago it was! This baby has been through thick and thin with me. It cools great, very solid and sturdy and yet still lightweight. It is just your basic, no frills laptop cooling fans. It has a nice tilting angle for my screen and cools reliably. No additional ports or fancy lights or anything. I actually think it’s better without the lights – not that I’ve owned one with led fan lights – but what would I need that for? Seems like it would be distracting from my screen. Anyway. This thing is a machine! (literally, I guess it is) I’ve had this plugged into my powered docking station for over a year now. I didn’t realize at first, but that meant the fans have been running for over a year straight, without stopping. A few months ago, I realized they were on, and just today I noticed that it sounded a little louder than before. Maybe the fans are wearing down or something is off balance now. But, man, that’s some impressive quality, to go a full year straight (that’s about 9,000 hours) on it’s NINTH year, and it’s still chugging along just fine – maybe just a little louder than it used to be. I did a google search to make sure I could still get the same product if this should finally fail, and funny that I found I had purchased it from Amazon years ago! Great buy, highly recommended if all you need is a straight up, strong fan!

Edited: It is June 2021, and this cooling pad is still going strong. Still five stars. It still works as designed. Now four years old, I can safely say this was a great buy.Original review: This is my second Targus cooling mat for laptops; it was originally bought to cool off an overheating 13 inch SSD Dell to make it more comfortable to use on my lap. My new laptop (15 inch SSD) has overheated a couple of times when I have left it charging on my couch, and I do not want that to happen again.Just like my old Targus, this new one has two silent, but pretty powerful fans that keep my laptop cool; a cooler computer is a better and happier one. 🙂 The USB cord that connects to my laptop (for power to the fans) stores away in a clip on either side right under the top, between the top and bottom. The bottom which sits on my legs, is soft cloth of some kind and makes it comfortable without getting warm. (Forecast calls for 100 and 107 degrees in a few days, so not getting warm is important if I want to sit in the cooler shade on my patio.)The cooling pad is light weight, and the laptop sits safely on the top without moving around when I move both the laptop and the cooling pad.Highly recommended.

My boyfriend was a little skeptical to use this when I bought it for him but he uses it all the time now :)The gap in the mat is a great sized space to pull air from each side and cool your laptop down fast, the fans don’t come on nearly as often while using this. The usb cord to turn the fans on is short so you don’t have to worry about the tangling of cords. When the fans are on you don’t hear them at all (unless you’re in a very quiet room of course). We typically sit on the couch with our laptops so it makes it so much better with not feeling the heat of the laptop and the fact that the mat is very light weight. This product is definitely worth the money and I would highly recommend it to others.I believe that reviews are solely for customers who are interested in learning more about a product before deciding to purchase. My ratings and reviews are based on my honest opinion of the product I’ve described above. Please feel free to ask any questions regarding this product and/or click “yes” if this review was helpful to you.

I have gone thru 5 or 6 cooler pads. They were all designed with cheap plastic material with the connections coming out the back of the pad then to the side USB port on laptop. THIS ONE is perfect. all connections are tucked away on the side, made of sturdy “metal” material. The fans do run a bit slower than the cheap plastic ones but are sufficient enough to keep laptop cool. I use my laptop as a LAP top, not something that sits on a flat surface such as a desk or table so the connections on the cheap ones at the back break because they are placed exactly where your legs are and bend, then break along with the plastic frame. THIS Targus is sturdy and they got the right idea of a LAP top. Would recommend this to anyone that uses their device as what the name describes a LAP TOP. Perfect cooler !!!!!
