This UM340 mini pc is an excellent option to have in your living room to power your basic media needs. Overpowered, yes, but great, definitely!Build quality:This mini pc comes in a nice high quality enclosure with some good weight to it. I don’t really ever intend to move it from its space on the media console, but I appreciate that it was made well. The lid is nice and tight, but easy to open to add a full size 2.5 inch SSD to it. All of the connectors seem to be high quality and I really have no complaints about how it looks. The power button isn’t too bright either when you’re watching movies, which is a plus for me.Power:I realize this is probably a bit of an overpowered rig to run a media center on, but it is perfect for me. It’s main goals were to run some lightweight steam games, and be able to run 4k video without a hitch. It seems to be able to both of these perfectly. I’ve got it set up to be running through my Marantz 7012 and it works excellently. HDMI dolby audio out works just fine, and I love using it to watch movies. I’ve played plenty of 4k video on it now, from various sources, Amazon Prime, Netflix, Disney+, Youtube, and from the hard drive. It never struggled. However, when I tried to bump it up to 8k on youtube, it did struggle a bit and had some hitching, I didn’t really troubleshoot that at all because my tv is only 4k, and there isn’t much 8k content yet. Not sure if it was a driver thing or what.Overall:I have pretty limited knowledge when it comes to mini pcs, I’ve only got this one, and one other. The rest of my computers are a mix of desktops and laptops, so I’m not super familiar with what the prices should be. According to some other reviewers, this one might not hold the highest value proposition when compared to some others in the lineup, but it works great for me. I don’t think you’d be going wrong to purchase this! One other note that I realized while watching movies is that it is nearly completely silent. My other mini pc has audible fan noise, and that isn’t really acceptable for home theatre use.I’ve had a little bit of short range issues with my Bluetooth keyboard connecting to it, but haven’t spent much time troubleshooting because it is infrequent. Could be the keyboard or interference. Overall great experience.

The power behind this is definitely the CPU and RAM. It’s great for processing-heavy tasks. It can handle graphics that are optimized for Radeon, but even then nothing extreme. I tested Dolphin with this and it could do Mario Kart Double Dash at a steady 60fps with 2x scaling and 2x MSAA, but anything beyond that would drop like a stone. So, decent graphics performance. The eight cores (logical) really do provide good work distribution. I can see this acting as a cluster PC in a highly parallel environment, maybe a Kubernetes node. 16GB of RAM is nothing to sneeze at either. It comes with a pretty fast 240GB SSD installed, but has a full-sized 2.5″ SATA expansion that you can access by just popping off the lid, so this really could be a little storage box if you wanted it to be. The two Ethernet ports really lend it to being a network appliance, but it does work fine mounted to the back of an HDMI monitor with the included bracket and jumper cable.Uses an inline power brick, which is nice compared to a wall wart eating your outlet space. Clean install of Windows 10 Pro (as far as I can tell) which is really refreshing coming from the world of vendors that preload every useless piece of bloat they can find. Still have to uninstall the Microsoft bloat though. All in all, very respectable. I’m impressed. I’d love to get three hooked together in a cluster and see what I can do!

The UM340 Mini PC is actually a very nice little computer depending on what you’re looking for. The UM340 Mini PC is perfect for web browsing and has all the internal components needed for watching videos or even light browser based games. There isn’t too much lag when opening multiple tabs of Youtube or even when you’re streaming content from Netflix. This computer would work well for school as well. Cloud based applications including Word and connecting to virtual classes should not be an issue. Obviously you’ll need a separate web cam. That being said, any heavy gaming will not run smoothly on this computer. In terms of ports and drives, you have everything you need. There’s 4 total USB ports with three 3.1 ports and one 3.0 port. There’s 2 ethernet port that allows you to use multiple internet connections which is hardly needed when using this at home. There’s also a USB C port that can also be utilized to extend your display. Most of us will probably use the HDMI or the Display port as the primary solution for connecting a monitor. Additionally, The top of the cover can be popped off to reveal an area to add additional storage. A headphone jack and onboard microphone rounds up the rest of the features. Overall this is a nice little computer. It performs well and with a 2020 Ryzen 5 3450U chipset, I expect this to last between 3 to 5 years before it bogs down.
